this is very interesting to watch and its amazing to see that you learn from your mistakes and kept going. I also hate interviews. I did decent on my GCSEs but not amazing and then i got ABB for A levels so the medicine door was kinda shut for me cos i wasn't willing to resit (i found my a levels particularly hard). I got biomedical science at Warwick for my back up but i didnt want to do biomed and i got a place at liverpool to computer science in clearing, but my mum (i think she wanted more that me) to be a doctor so we signed up to agencies and got 2 offered to places in plovdiv (bulgaria) and oradea (romania) to study medicine. I just sat my last exam of the 2nd year yesterday and am waiting on results. Even if I got all A*s i still think i would have struggled with interview for the same reasons as you, that my heart wasn't fully in it. don't get me wrong, i don't hate it, its very interesting and just getting to go to university is good life experience but i feel there are a lot of people who are more passionate about it than me. but i think i wouldve preferred studying in UK. I definitely miss the people and british culture etc, but yeah, this place is alright.

Hey ! I am an Indian , i just gave the competitive exam required here for getting into a medical school but due to its high merit and reservation of seats ( there are 1 lakh seats for 25 lakh competitors )I couldn’t get the seat but now I’m going to do my undergraduate medicine degree ( mbbs ) from a private university in dhaka bangladesh . But I really wanted to study in Scotland especially in Edinburgh! But my parents couldn’t allow me … i have decided to get postgraduate degree in medicine and surgery from Edinburgh ( i also would love if i get to have a job there ) can you please tell me the criteria and all the requirements for getting into a college there , so i can start all my preparations beforehand!! Even though i have started ug just now but i would like to prepare myself from the start and keep my goal clear !! Please do reply!! Loved your video such good editings too !!!

This mask wearing only separates people more from each other and only protects them from being social. It is very sad to see people follow what others do without any individuality. Just follow the herd

I think I just Googled NHS jobs/career vacancies and found the closest one to me! It’s really not that hard to get a HCA/CSW role - I think most people could walk into a vacancy without any experience. I only got an induction or training 3 months into my job!

I think your parents are genuinely wholesome. I often wished that my parents would have pushed me harder. There were very little expectations or pressure from them. I was the one that pressured myself into doing well and working hard. that extra pressure might just have taken me that extra step further. Or not. I don’t know. All I’m saying maybe at least some pressure isn’t a bad thing.

Good lord, I needed this today. I’m a wannabe grad entry medic. I spent the last year prepping, working as an HCA, getting work experience, volunteering etc. Then I took my UCAT. 😞 2250. I’m applying anyway but am resigned to the fact that I will be rejected. Slowly but surely getting used to the idea it’s going to be an additional year (at least). Your video gives me hope! X

I'm always rewatching this video; it's very inspirational to me. I'm a mature Brazilian student living in Paisley near Glasgow, and my dream is to become a medical student at the University of Glasgow. I have already been accepted into the SWAP Course, which is a two-year program designed to help us attain the necessary scores for Medical School. Let me tell you, getting into that course was highly competitive. You need to take a test and achieve a score high enough to be considered. After that, you'll be interviewed-it's essentially like entering the university, but with less intensity. I ranked 13th out of 150 applicants, which is good. The next step will be achieving a high score on the UCAT. As for my experience, I already work as a Care Assistant. I hope I can make it too, bro.

im a first year med student and goingn to have my end of years. before med school, i was happy. i had friends a social life good family etc etc. i did absolutely amazing at a levels wgich is basically the exams u do in college before uni in the UK, top grades in the country. i loved medicine i done plenty of volunteering, joined weekly webinars talking about different aspects etc. i had to do a 2 page research project on a condition of my choice a year before uni as a med summer school thiny and i wrote 8 on COPD out of pure intrigue, joy and excitement learning about it and the lungs. flash forward to now. i have no friends i isolate myself a lot and im lashing out when i really dont mean to out of pure sadness and frustration. i made no frieends at uni and multiple times throughought I have really just hated med school. i hated to learn abotu the heart, the lungs, diseases, treatments everything. i came across COPD again and was excited but during and after the lecture, i was just more miserable than i already was. ive gone from having a passion for medicine to having a passion to hate everything abotu it. im very underprepapred for my end of year, and i am jsut so puzzled. should i quit? is this just me being silly? am i just having a bad year? Its first year only, said to be the easiest but it is anything but easy and fun. and if i quit med i dont know what i will do i was 100% set on this i loved it and i will dissapoint everyone in my family, especially my grandparents who are doctors and my mum who dreamed of me to be one. i feel like ive made the biggest mistake of my lfie and i am now living the most miserable year of my entire life and this isnt from the stress of end of years closeby - its how ive felt for the entire year but denied it telling myself im siilly or its going to get better :(

I relate to what you said about having asian parents. Medicine is a fantastic career but the harsh working conditions and chronic stress of the job is pushing doctors to leave the NHS for Australia and New Zealand. When I signed up for medicine I knew the job required working long hours. However, the sacrifices doctors make due to the demand of work and rota are often at the expense of personal lives. i.e Missed Christmas, birthdays and weddings with loved ones. Not being able to take annual leaves when one needs to attend to personal commitments strips someone's autonomy. During my training, I was overworked but kept up with the increasing demand of work and pressure. A few years ago, after a hectic 13.5hr night shift I started to notice the impact of heightened chronic stress, sleepless nights and long hours on my health. Looking back, I was a few months from a burnout.

I'm Asian and My Dad never enrolled me in med school even though I finished pre-med because his reason is "he wants his invested money to return quickly" but newly BAR passer lawyers during pandemic had no jobs since the companies shut down and even laid off their existing lawyers. Some of my classmates even made a law office in front of their house located along the slum areas. If I was in her situation, I'm not gonna open a law office at all without money to rent a decent office because my social image will be questioned by others " you're a lawyer without money?". I'm glad I quit during my law school days, but it created a connection gap between me and my Dad. Luckily during pandemic season, some European Podiatry schools opened online so I'm enrolled and now got my Graduation photo already. I didn't go to the whole Med School because I only like to focus on a specific part of the body, i wanted a direct specialization like dentists who solely focus on teeth so Podiatry also focus on the lower knee until the foot. i didn't choose dentistry because there's more liability there but Podiatry is manageable for me.

@@Nachiket63 It's not saintly, he just enrolled me forcefully in a different course that I didn't like then everyone felt disappointed that I got more than 10 flunked subjects. That's still same typical Asian parent, they want you to enroll what they like then when you flunk, they get angry for you failing.

Hi Sarvi, thanks for commenting! I have another video on my channel about how much I make as a junior doctor in the UK - it's not very impressive at all. Sure, it may become a middle class salary in 8 years when I become a consultant, but there's plenty of alternative jobs that can hit the same level of income in a shorter time.

i have a question- in terms of volunteering, shadowing and such that you did when you were in school to improve your application form, how much did you do??? i’m currently shadowing a GP and am applying to volunteer at my local hospital (and am obviously working towards getting all A’s) but i’m still a little lost on what i can do to make me stand out from other candidates. edinburgh is so competitive and i’m v wary of that lol.😭

In terms of volunteering, I did maybe 6 months of volunteering at a local youth club for disabled children, and wrote some bs about helping out a Sunday school in church too haha. When I applied anyway, volunteering was very much a checkbox exercise so as long as you've done something it's no big deal. I have a video about my Edinburgh application, offer and rejections on my channel, you can find out more information there!

Wow, thank you so much for this video daniel, this is really inspiring! Applying for edinburgh this year (2023 entry) and unfortunately there is an interview now💀 Definitely not an interview person either, and plus I’m applying as an international applicant and my ucat sjt isn’t the best out there, and so I’m going to be living in fear for the next month. The scariest thing about the interview is that there is a group session in addition to 3 12-minute mmis, where we have to do a group presentation with less than half an hour of prep, and they assess your communication and leadership skills. My a levels and cognitive ucat are fine, but the interview weighs 50% of the whole application, so i definitely need to brush up on my public speaking skills the next 20 days…

I have been alive during 4 world cups -South Africa 2010: I was a child so I don't renember anything. -Brazil 2014: Since in my country, soccer is not the main sport and not even a main one, I don't renember anything about this world cup, more because I was still a child. -Russia 2018: I don't renember anything talking about that but I renember Coca Cola having something about the cup but really nothing else. -Qatar 2022: I'm not fan of soccer but this time I was every day watching how the teams were but not watching the matches. Until today I had seen only 2 matches, both semifinals, and I'm gonna see the final. -North America 2026: My expectation is mostly the same as Qatar 2022, just watch the most important games but being attent to the scores.
