"as they did in the 18th century"... I wish. We still used a hand scythe to mow our steepest hills and the orchard with the apple trees in the 1990 and onward. We had a self driving sickle mower like you have, just a bigger one, and a big drum mower for the tractor to do the big fields. We even had a motorized scythe, basically a "weed whacker", but bigger. We used a cutting blade and not a string to cut grass with it. But the old hand scythe still had it's place even on a modern farm. Me and granpa both prefered the hand scythe, while my dad and brother preferred the motorized one. For me it was too heavy, uncomfortable and loud. Once you got the right technique down to use the hand scythe, and it was properly sharpened (we always had a scythe whetstone on the belt to quickly resharpen in the field) it was still faster than the motorized scythe. Me and my older brother actually had a competition going on who could cut more in the same time 😅

Interesting way to try and turn and teather the hay with a small garden rake. I guess growing up on a farm told me many lessons and tools to use that make work easier and more efficent. Never putting hay into a pile if it's is not completely dry was a lesson i learned as a kid too. We usually kept a close eye on the hay stack when we brought new material into the barn, we even had a special long "haydrill" with a thermometer at the end so we could probe the hay stack for temperature change that would indicate something isn't right. If the temperature was rising too much, the pile had to spread out and loaded up and taken out on field again to dry. One of our neighbours farm completely burned down because of a fire that started in the hay stack. He had just installed a fancy air drying system for his hay stack, so he thought to take a bit more risk and take moist hay inside and not monitor the pile enough. Pretty tragic for the farm and the animals, at least the family was lucky and got out of the house in time, as the fire started in the night. But firefighters could not do much anymore. The straw, hay and wooden building burned extremely fast and could not be stopped with the available water, so they mostly just could try to keep the fire from spreading further to other nearby houses and fields. Keep on learning, and don't hesitate to ask other farmers for help and advice. Some of them might be a bit grumpy or laugh at you, but i'm sure you will find some kind and nice people that will help you too. By the way, we always raked up the hay into windrows in the evening, and spread them out in the morning again. This helps a lot to actually pick up all the wet patches of grass and turn them over, and the morning dew in the field evaporates away before you spread the hay again to dry, making it dry much better and quicker.

Can't wait to see that barn getting built and used again. And i'm sure the sheep will love to have a nice place to stay warm for the winter. The "cellar" under the barn looks like a liquid manure pit. And the walled off "room" in front of the barn looks like it was used for the solid manure and straw pile. Sometimes they are actually connected so the run off water from the solid manure pile would flow into the liquid manure tank too, but i can't tell if the liquid tank is actually deeper below the other area for the solid manure.

I noticed you used hydraulic oil on the gear/hydraulic box, but this is not good. Use motor oil or gear oil on this.. No lubrication in hydraulic oil. I have an old 480 dt my self. Keep up the good work!👍

Eric, I’m so impressed that you got your blood pressure and diabetes under control! That takes a lot of willpower 💗 Yes, I would love to see videos of your family day trips! Living in America it seems that the Norwegian flora and fauna, landscapes, are magical and so different from where I live in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, the center of the United States. But seriously, don’t stress about getting videos out. Or film inside! I’m glad that CPAP has helped! If I’d known about COVID spreading near you, I would have sewn you all reusable masks. I’ve sewn around 100 & those who wore them didn’t get COVID. I have diabetes and sleep apnea. What diet did you follow? All the best to you and your family!

Hello from usa, very nice work on the tractor and barn, My best guess is that the cobblestone / dirt area was a holding pen for the dairy cows, the slats where milkings area and the underneath secret part was for slurry,

Howdy from Texas I’m liking your channel. That’s a cool barn y’all got there. One thing that will help you get that pin out of your front end loader is to use some heat and some penetrating oil or if you got some Wd-40 that will work just as good. Hope that helps see ya

Hi, I watch your farm movies from Poland, I am not farmer or such, but I am interested in sustainable life. YT algorithm sent me your movies, as I watched different types of permacultural farming movies by Ramsey United. Every time I watch your movies it is zen for me. You seem to be smart guy, looking into the future of your children and grandchildren.I wish you your dreams come true, it is very common sentence, but it is real good luck will. For me it is nice to work in my ship electric engineering job, I do what I like and the company pays me! I hope you do your job and hobby farming like this also, it is hard, but that the way as life is. A lot of health for you and your family, especially for you daughter. I hope also that you will finally be self efficient of your farm and maybe from YT money, who knows? Keep going, even if you will not produce more movies here!

Oh, and nobody should worry about the environment, for the background wallpaper viewing, I use a decommissions cell phone.🙃☀️

Drain the oil from hydraulics and put transmission oil, hydraulics oil heat too fast and can destroy your pump

Have you thought about getting some quality used equipment to make the hay so you don’t have to experience the trouble with the mouldy hay which happened last time, The fiat tractor could be used with the equipment especially a hay turner and baler, 🇬🇧🇮🇪.

So was the first pot of water boiling used to aid in the de-feathering of the harvested rooster? I have heard that is the way to help get the feathers off but have not actually seen that done. How long do you have to let the bird soak before attempting the feather removal?

Greetings from Poland. Ive watched almost all of your videos. There are not many youtube channels that show full scope of the reality. Improving your homestead/farm/house is not a sprint. Its more like a marathon and its full of digressions. It requires huge amount of optimism to go and improve everything bit by bit and not to give up. I like your DIY attitude, and that you are showing ups and downs. Wish you and your family all the best Erik! Waiting for your next material. Your channel is very inspiring to me.
