I did, I needed the room in the shed I built for my recording studio. I don't know what the new owner did to it, but the only issue I had was the table drive belt (all metal) needed a little help getting started. Just a slight pull up on it and away it went. It's an awesome machine! Have fun with it!
@itchyoldfart2 ай бұрын
The new owner mentioned the metal chain issue. I know you have done a lot of work to improve the function and reliability of it... great job on that...Thank you sir, I'm a fabricator and gearhead, so will definitely have fun with it..😊

You can try it... it might be cylinder scoring if you are in a cold climate. The S engines had this problem - the Turbos don't because they have extra oil passages inside.

My buddy has this or a similar tray top lathe and cant do threading without some sort of shim between the lead screw and where it meets the quick change box, any help is appreciated
@IAmDistracted4 ай бұрын
There should be a drive screw there... and a coupler that hooks to it to actually make it turn. Which can be made on the lathe... :) I doubt there are parts out there for these older lathes, so it would have to be made.

The belt iz way crooked. And your table drive soundz like therez a broken bearing sumwhere .
@IAmDistracted4 ай бұрын
Yep, there's even supposed to be 2 belts driving it at the top but with the motor change, a pulley was lost. It works, so I don't fiddle with it. The table drive sounds that way because it's a metal drive belt, like a thick multi-layer chain, so it clanks away.

I have a VN #12 as well and it’s complete. I have the over arm support for horizontal milling and a full set of collets. I even have some doubles of the collets if you could use them? I’m still running the d 3 phase motor and am interested in how you converted yours to single phase. What HP and rating is your motor?
@IAmDistracted4 ай бұрын
Awesome! I bought it with the motor changed already. It has a 1HP motor on it... the whole motor was taken off and changed with a new one, single phase, 110v. I was able to find a bunch of collets, so I'm good with that- thanks!

My grandpa has one of these. He passed away tho, so now I’m helping my mom sell it. Any idea what they’re worth? How should I try to sell it?
@IAmDistracted Жыл бұрын
Sorry about your grandpa. It really depends on the tooling you have, the condition it's in, and where you are located. It's not like you're going to ship something this big and heavy (I guess you could...). Right now, prices for older, solid equipment like this is up. I would say anywhere from $1k to $4k is what these are worth right now. But you need tooling with it - especially the collets. If you have the arbor mount, a full set of collets, the Van Norman dividing head, and it's in great shape with no runout... I would say you're at the top end of that estimate. No collets, nothing else, just the mill... probably hard to even get $1k for it. So look for all of the accessories that could go with it.
