I missed the campaign for the collectors edition. If I buy straight from the creators, I'd basically spend $80 on just the miniatures. The miniatures are neat, but I'd only use them to "decorate" the game area. The wooden pawns seem like they would work better gameplay wise. The playmat is neat, but it would take up too much space, both on the table and in storage. If they found a way to include discard pile spaces on it, it might be worth it. But the lack of discard spaces on the mat means it will take up even more of the table. The game is already bulky as is. I am tempted to buy the book of adventures though. But i need to be realistic. Do i play the game often enough to need it? Not at all. The base scenarios are enough. As you said, it's a luxury item. I'm typically fine with luxury items, but they need tk be somewhat practical. If I could see myself using the miniatures during gameplay, maybe I'd double dip on the game. But with it just being added miniatures, none of the KS exclusives, and not even the boon or mat? Hard pass.

Luthier intrigues me. I'm excited to see you coverage of that one. I was initially confused by the boxes piling up on your table, thinking that those were "keep or sell" games. I guess that works, though, because i ended up watching the entire video twice. I'd like to see more thoughts about the games that you're getting rid of...like a hot-take on why a game is not right for your collection. I find that sort of thing very informative. Great video (both times)!

Those were some very good call outs for some risks in enjoyment. Does the negotiation/trade sound like Catan? And is it only on your turn?
@GameBrigade
@GameBrigade 14 күн бұрын
You collect resources when you send your ship out to do an action. If the resources have a white border, those resources are to be traded, and if not traded will be lost at the end of your turn. So you are incentivized to trade the white bordered resources on your turn. When it's other people's turn you are able to trade any of your resources that you own for their resources including whiteboard resources they collected. There isn't a way to really Bogart or control resources because there are plenty of places to go get them. But we had several times where certain resources were very limited because people were going for specific colors for control.

I sorry but I have no sympathy for your plight. Boardgames are like books, they're meant to be bought for enjoyment and last a lifetime. They're not the new playstation that is going to be replaced in 4 years. The best ones are the classics, just like in literature. If someone came to you and asked "how do I get into reading more books" you're going to point them to Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, not the current NY Times best seller list. And yet you guys are just looking to buy the latest kickstarter product without any scrutiny or demonstration and then complain when it doesn't live up to your expectations. There are dozens of boardgames that have been successful for years that I'm sure you haven't even looked into. Why not try them for a change, see how they play and what people think of them. You might enjoy yourself more than just backing a random game no one's ever heard of just because it looks nice on a screen.

@@GameBrigade It's actually exactly the same issue, but it makes complete sense that you don't see it this way. If you did you wouldn't be having this problem. Looking to kickstarter for new games all the time, a platform which requires no accountability, which is just looking to take your money without any guarantee they'll even bring out the product, let alone in a timely, efficient manner is reflective of the overall problem in the industry. You're just looking to buy the shiny new toy, which looks fancy and has a boatload of overproduced components to tempt you and, surprise surprise, turns out it's a rudimentary game design and the publisher has no clue how to properly produce and distribute games because he's just trying to make a quick buck off this bubble we've been living in the past few years.

Helpful video, thank you! I partially disagree about be empower tokens though, I rate those very highly as even if you miss the determination rule means you keep the token, and it can help you by diving into decks you don’t normally get to access when you know there’s lots of blanks left in the yellow and white ones. I’ve seen that token end a fight before, or break a location that was on full health. So don’t underestimate their value! Sure, if that's your opinion. Having backed many of their games, I love the level of player engagement from their games and I love how they try to find the grey areas of game genres in trying to reach something new. Out of curiosity, which of their games (that you own and have played) do you think is subpar or 'non-stellar'? Veiled Fate is still a hit with my player circle, that's not including the expansion. Moonrakers also gets some good airtime amongst the other games we've got on rotation.

@@stevepettenon1 I played Moonrakers (which felt very tame, small and unspectacular), Veiled Fate (which was good but nobody felt like we needed to play it again after our third game) as well as Mystic Mischief. I love abstract games but this one didn’t hit for me either. I was really hoping we would play it a lot and get competitive but it just felt like it was holding back. E.g. It would definitely be a different game (not implying good / bad, but different) - biggest thing I can see is that interaction on trading resources would be much less (if I know you desperately need blue or purple, I can make it extra expensive or just not offer trades) but you could have massive swings for which colors count for points - if you have 5 people and everyone has a ship or two on green, you can almost guarantee that green will count. But if it's just the two of us, do I want to go hard on green because I have 3 ships on it and you have none, but then I'll have no resources at the start of the next round? (having been there, that was not fun) I think it is definitely intriguing. Biggest issue I think you'd run into is that there would be sig more direct "take that", so I can think of several players in my board game group who'd be fine with that, but several others who absolutely wouldn't and my wife would hate it.

Well, you can get Moonrakers right now, while it will be at least a year before you can get Brink on the table. Have not played Brink though, so I’m open to being corrected

@@fablesmith1931 This is a solid response. Moonrakers you need your opponents to go on missions with you to complete them and you have to decide how much resource is you're willing to trade for their help. Bring your needing your opponents to give you their resources in exchange for your resources that you don't get to keep if you don't trade them. This causes your opponents to get better trades values. They are both really social

Before changing all cards you have like 4 actions in a round, 4x3 is 12 actions, which can barely cover even a 30min gameplay. You can never fulfill your points card, I know it's about measuring which choice is more worth it but the actual difference is puny.
