Is it common to have hip issue after lumbar fusion now healed and cycling 100 plus miles per week over past year then hip pain MRA say posterior linear tear could the fusion and scar tissue have brought that on
@LoriDuncanPT
@LoriDuncanPT 6 күн бұрын
Hi. I can't say it's common. It's likely that tear existed before your fusion and now is chatting with you after weakness that is always a result of surgery. I would work on stability glute/core and lat and see a good PT.

I went from feeling invincible, athletic, agile and completely coordinated to barley being able to use my legs. This is the only video I’ve been able to find that offered tangible advice that I can start today. And it gave me a realistic timeline, I thought I’d be back to myself in a week or two but looks like it might be a process. Thanks for posting this though.

Is slipping and hitting the butt hard on a hard cement floor can cause muscular atrophy? My muscle in legs and thighs are loosen. Can't even eat by my self because I don't have grip on anything, I can't get up properly and can't even walk on my own. I've been like this since 2022.

Does kinesio taping work in case of fascia?
@marinawong9662

I suspect I have muscular atrophy pain and I googled and found your video. I had a bursitis on my right shoulder earlier this year (a little over three months ago). After taking some prednisone and saw an orthopedic doctor and a physical therapist doctor, I had to leave home to take care of my parents in another state. My therapy exercise was limiting during that time. I did try to increase my range of motion and for a while it has worked, however, a month or two later, my muscle started to ache and I thought I injured myself more. In retrospect, this could be the beginning of muscle atrophy. Anyways, when that happened, I stopped doing my range of motion exercise, and concentrated on using heat therapy and massage. I’m back to doing physiotherapy again recently. How can one diagnose this fascia issue? And what can I ask my physical therapist to do? TIA 🙏

Hi Great videos! I had a MRI of hip with these results: Moderate chondrosis at the left hip with areas of intermediate to high grade partial thickness cartilage loss superolaterally. Degenerative tearing of the superolateral labrum. Is this the problem of my four year lateral hip pain?

Hi Lori, so...maybe or maybe not? My joint is stable, PT didn't help, after MRI the doc says bad tear and bone spur on the cam that will continue to wear out the joint. The dull pain is manageable but I'm not the same athletic-wise or as active playing with the kids. Poor range of motion, sharp pain if I move the leg outward, and dull pain while I sleep on my side. The stories where others are 1.5 to 2 years post-op but still in pain scare me. Would you say my situation is a maybe?
@LoriDuncanPT
@LoriDuncanPT 3 ай бұрын
Hi. Bone spurs can cause more damage over time depending on the size. My question would be if your pain is from the bone spur/hip joint or from the muscle/fascia around it. If it's the latter, try PT! (stability based, not strength based)

PT made my labral tear issues so much worse and i developed arthritis from Continuing to use my hips and do extreme exercises on a torn labrum (bc I was told “my muscles were just weak”) and then everything else in there trying to overcompensate for that. I’m in much more pain than I was before! I have to have surgery and now there’s even more damage from letting it go on for 6 months torn while I continued PT, yoga, daily life having my joint wear down more and more each day

If you have a tear the only way is to fix it through surgery. The labrum does NOT heal on its own.

This totally makes sense , I’ll have to see more of your videos. ( I’m 64, so it will probably take a month or two to really build up the major and medium glute muscles so I’m not asking the periformas muscle to perform to my hurt. Would you suggest a 10 min walk to warm up my system, then do the exercises and finish with kinetic stretches? I’m not sure of your position on stretching. Thank you for your help.

She is very thorough in her explanation. I was diagnosed with a hip impingement. The pain was bad for a good two years till i finally saw the right PT. My pain went away as long as i did my PT regularly. 4 years later i had a baby and now have torn labrum on both sides. Starting PT again.

This is the definition of ignorance, you speak with certainty on things you have never experienced. I guarantee I have three times your lung capacity. When I breath and expand my entire torso from pelvic floor to collar bones I become so relaxed my mind completely silences. In that silence there is a endless sea of bliss just waiting to engulf and sooth me. When finished I am absolutely bristling with vitality, more at peace than you have ever been, I can tell from your personality. Can you do that? Do you have access to infinite bliss? Didn't think so. How can you speak on breathing when you've never taken a complete breath in your life?

Im dealing with Piriformis Syndrome right now - ive always had a lordotic lumbar curve (weak hamstrings, tight hip flexors), which has been causing my piriformis to overwork. After 7 months of intense pain, hamstring strengthening seems to be the key to my puzzle.

Why learn to breathe properly? The average person breathes 16X a minute. If a person lives to 80, then that means on average they will take 672,768,000 breaths in a lifetime!

I was diagnosed with complex labral tears in both hips about two years ago. Pain levels were really high at the time, like 8 or 9. Two years of PT has helped a lot, 60-90 min daily, 4-5 days per week. Right side has mostly cleared up. But left side is real stubborn, and pain has been at about a 5 for a year now. Cant sit down for more than a few minutes without pain. Not sure if i should pursue surgery or if i need a different PT approach. Looking for any help i can get. Thanks!

Hi, that's positive about your right hip feeling better. If you feel you had great PT (stability-based, not just strength-based) then it might be time to look into surgery on the left hip. I'm the last person to tell anyone to get surgery but there is a time and place for it.

I came back to find this video to say how helpful this video along with your “piriformis syndrome” video is. You have changed my perspective on muscle activation & how important it really is. I suffer from piriformis syndrome and up until just a couple days ago i experienced nagging pain in my deep butt that just wouldn’t go away and hurt when I did any activity, even walking. I’ve applied your concept of muscle activation to the clamshell exercise that I’ve been doing for at least a year without any results, until 2 days ago when I first stumbled across your first video. Let me tell you, finding my glute medius was indeed new territory. I could barely do 2 reps with muscle activation being my focus. Even better news, the pain in the ass I’ve been having for the last couple years is gone, literally 2 days after focusing on muscle activation. I’ve dreaded doing glute exercises like the Bridge & leg extension because of the pain I’ve always felt from them, but now its the complete opposite. I am so eager to jump into clams & bridges because I can actually feel my glutes, and boy, my ass has got A LOT of catching up to do. I’m stoked. Doc, thank you for restoring my hope. I’m really grateful I came across your videos.

I have a very strong stinging pain above and beneath the clavicles radiating into my anterior shoulders on both sides when a stretch my shoulders back, along with cracking on my front chest. When i shrug my shoulders my whole front shoulder girdle cracks, not always bit when I do every 2-3 hours. Its like I am wearing a 100 pounds rucksack all the time, even when I am lying on my bed "relaxing"

Who says the 'belly breath' drives the breathing and not the diaphragm? I think the belly is emphasized in Yoga and other disciplines because it is an indicator of correct and full and relaxed natural breathing. As an exercise to show this, wrap your arms around your belly and hold it in, then breath in deep. You can still breath, however if you are unhealthy your inbreath will be small and strained. BTW, I bet most people with breath issues are wearing ill fitting clothing that constrains their belly movement.
@LoriDuncanPT
@LoriDuncanPT 9 ай бұрын
Hi! SO many people think the belly drives the breath; thus my video. Even my kiddo came home and said he was taught to "breath into his belly" for relaxation. It's just a weird cue that has confused most people. You might be right about the clothing. Mostly I just don't think people are cued correctly; when they are it is a game changer. Thanks for the comment!
