I've cured my piriformis with the clam shell exercise, heavy squats, and quitting, yes quitting stretching.

After about 5 years of pain, I just figured out that I had sciatica (discovered from a biofeedback session). I found you while researching piraformis/sciatica. I started doing your exercises from this video and the IT band one (about 5 different ones). After 2 days of exercises twice a day, I felt TREMENDOUS relief! As a matter of fact I didn't awaken last night from pain! I am so grateful for your knowledge, enthusiasm and generosity. If I need more help, I'll come from fort collins to see you !

I know this is an old video...but maybe you'll see this question. So are you saying that if I have pain in my right butt just below my belt line AND I have degeneration of the disc in low back, that stretching the piriformis would be recommended? Thank you for your help.

Thank you Lori. Always amazing advice. Had a flair up of Piriformis syndrome and started to focus on building glutea up. For me, I had been trying to focus on glute activation to prevent any Piriformis issues. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised it needs to be a constant practice of engaging core muscle and glute muscle, as I can get lazy 😖

What might I be doing day to day that caused my piriformis to become overused in the first place so I can fix that? Is it posture or how I am walking or sitting?

This totally makes sense , I’ll have to see more of your videos. ( I’m 64, so it will probably take a month or two to really build up the major and medium glute muscles so I’m not asking the periformas muscle to perform to my hurt.

Im dealing with Piriformis Syndrome right now - ive always had a lordotic lumbar curve (weak hamstrings, tight hip flexors), which has been causing my piriformis to overwork. After 7 months of intense pain, hamstring strengthening seems to be the key to my puzzle.

My piriformis issue is definitely not from my back. So doing clam shells and bridges to work on my glutes is most likely the way to go?
