Are there conditions like that on the river nowadays?
@CharlestonSharkTeeth
@CharlestonSharkTeeth Ай бұрын
Yes, there are conditions like that, occasionally. In order to go at the right time, you have to monitor the Givhan's Ferry gage. When the guage reads two. or three feet, you can go and you can find shallow water. But the bottom varies in depth. so some places will be deeper than others. You certainly do not want to go when the gage is reading 8 or 10 feet. Be aware that this is what I call the backwoods and you will have no cell phone service., so safety becomes a concern waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/02175000/#parameterCode=00065&period=P7D&showMedian=false

There are two fossilized layers of earth that run through South Carolina. They are named the Hawthorne formation and the Chandler Bridge formation. These formations come closest to the surface of the Earth around 20 miles inland. This is where your teeth come from. They get washed out of the foundation, and then as time passes, they move towards the ocean. This is why you will seldom find a fossil 30 or 40 miles inland.

Do you think there are big teeth on the seafloor of folly river?
@CharlestonSharkTeeth
@CharlestonSharkTeeth 4 ай бұрын
Fossils are heavy and they behave like rocks. They mix in with the gravel. You have to find gravel beds, as a general rule, to find fossils. You won’t find fossils where you find only sand.
@CharlestonSharkTeeth
@CharlestonSharkTeeth 4 ай бұрын
The fossils, and the big teeth, usually fall out of the earths strata and earths age old formations in the areas about 20 miles inland. They are then worked down towards the coast by the rivers.

Based on your latest videos you are not spending much time toothing these days. If your bushwhacking to get to new spots it's hard work. I've been going to the Charleston area and the peace a couple times a year and I've got some good not great teeth. THE hardest part about shark tooth hunting is researching where your gonna go. I mean topographic maps, and hunting down the on-line not just where the chandler bridge formation was but where it was at or close to the surface . There's not of good formation so deep we will never see it. You do concur I'm sure. EVEN with a ton of research in and a master plan I might find nothing or find myself somewhere I shouldn't be. When some says "WHERE exactly did you find them " I chuckle. It's like people wanting to know the GPS coordinates of my favorite fishing spots. You tell one person and there are 50 there the next time you go. You have to earn it or have a really good friend.

The first issue is the speedometer is very inaccurate, fluctuating drastically, for example I could be at top speed, and the speedo will read 20kmh, or the next second 10kmh and then 32kmh, all whilst I am maxed out at 60 odd kmh. And vice versa. The second problem I have, is that the fuel gauge is reading 2/10ths of a bar when it has over half a tank of fuel inside. I'm wondering if the clock is damaged or I may need a new float. Any ideas would be massively appreciated! Once again thanks for the help 👍🏻

@@SconHeadVideos Not a clue. Just have to trouble shoot. Maybe the speed sensor wheel (bottom rear next to nozzle) is dragging or resistant to spinning. Sounds like either problem could be either electrical or mechanical. I would look at the mechanical side of both (first). That is just a personal preference. I adjusted the idle speed on mine today. It was reading 1200 rpm's. The spec is 1600-1800. Will test it soon. Funny thing it idles in the driveway but at the dock it will not idle. It just slows down and drops dead. It sounds good and runs smoothly but I am not pushing away from the dock until it idles properly. I removed my winch strap today. I have one on order. The safety latch is missing on the winch strap hook. I was amazed at the rust towards the end of the strap. The rust was hidden. It was rusted to the attachment bolt. Used my Dremel to cut it free. The fossils here in Charleston and surrounding areas are abundant but very elusive. Although a "stray" will surface occasionally due to rain and erosion, most loose fossils migrate towards gravel and rocks of similar weight and density. I have found them just laying out in the open on the ground but that is rare. Any gravel beds within 20 miles of the coast are always a good place to look.

Every vid I watch shows people finding them but finally a vid showing WHERE to find them. Great vid and thank you for posting to help people starting out into finding sharks teeth.

No problem. Hope it helps. I get lots of emails from total strangers wanting me to take them out, and point to them, so they can pick them up. How ridiculous can you get

@@CharlestonSharkTeeth I have to admit I asked a guy on here if he did guided tours for the general public at all to fossil sights, I was even willing to pay. He said no he doesn't but I went and did some research anyways on where to go down south to find them. I personally would make it known when asking a stranger that I'm willing to pay a fee, and if they're interested to begin with in being a guide. Just as a courtesy measure.

Love your battery box. :)

Thanks. It keeps me from accidentally dropping something metal across the terminals. It also makes the battery easy to carry and handle. The SAE connectors work very nicely

Lee i have recently moved to Adams Run one of the reasons was to be closer to the river. I don’t have a canoe or kayak. Is there anywhere on the river I can access on foot at low tide and maybe find some beds? Gone out to the beach a few times and found some baby teeth but I’m after something bigger like the meg I had as a kid.

Monitor the Givhan's Water Level Gauge (online). When it reads 3' deep or less, go to the edge of the river and look through the water and look for gravel beds. Search through the gravel. You will of course be limited to areas that you have access to. Be cautious of aggressive critters. Good luck!
