It is a good idea to do test driving of a taxi driver before to go to the airport. People give their lives into the hands of a taxi driver, but are never questioning about his experience or ability to drive. ;)

I think comments at the boundaries (function definitions, class definitions make sense) especially when dealing with code that is non trivial. Even your example with calculating area could have a comment. What happens if width and height are less than 0? What are the units? Can you multiply values that aren't the same unit (for example meters and centimeters?)

I don’t really agree with your perspectives here. 15 years of experience, JavaScript/TS is alright but I wouldn’t use it on the backend just front end to make my life easier. Php, C++ or my new favorite Rust/Bend for backend/api endpoints. PHP is great if you use more recent versions especially with the Laravel. Python doesn’t even belong neither does the others just throw them away there trash 😂

Principle 10 is not an argument against "premature optimization", it's an argument for unnecessary pessimization. Premature optimization is when you make the uninformed decision to switch to assembler to squeeze a few CPU cycles out of a function. Premature Optimization is not a thing in purely high level code as you have it in languages like javascript. Unfortunately, this misconception is very widespread and it is leading to incredibly slow code, where the whole codebase is the bottleneck, because everything it pessimized to a point where you can't even find a place to start optimizing. With all the pessimizations stacked on top of each other, we today have the issue that simple operations like starting a program can take 10 seconds and more, where it should take less than half a second.

== for null checks, because it also checks for undefined. === for all other equality checks. This is the standard practice I've seen enforced in pretty much every codebase I have ever worked in, and I think it generally makes the most sense.

It is because it uses radix sort under the hood right?
@ConnerArdman
@ConnerArdman 2 күн бұрын
No, it doesn’t use Radix sort. As far as I know, the spec doesn’t even require a certain algorithm, but I think most engines use Timsort. The reason is essentially just that arrays can have any types in them. As such, the default sort has to make some decision on how to handle that. The decision they made is to treat everything as a string in comparisons. I would imagine this is because it is a type that basically any value can be reliably converted to, but tbh I’m not actually sure why they made that decision.
