I think one thing to add as well is that in bjj there is the basic belt system which is white blue purple brown black but for kids under 16 there is another belt system which has 13 belts because for kids it’s so hard to get to blue belt that they added more belts so they don’t get discouraged. This could be something to add in since some other martial arts have all their belts available to kids right away.

FYI: sloths have a "reverse grip" meaning that their default is to have a closed grip, even to the point where some sloths still hang on to the tree after they become past tense.

Wait wait wait. Some of the best parties I ever went to had no womens. LAN parties were awesome and good fun. Just no chance for STDs or unwanted pregnacies or regret. Sounds to me like a win win. Just sayin.

There are so many sounds, the breakfall is also one of my favs, especially when it echoes in a big hall. Also the Osoto gari foot sliding across the mat before rhe throw. The mook jong wooden dummy in wing chun sounds very nice to my ears. Hea- issh in muay thai as well

good for protecting the head, but man does your body look wide open. A few good body shots take you down too sadly.

Goes to show you should always watch what good practitioners do (and this dude is a really good MT practitioner, without question) rather than listen to what they say they do. There's often a discrepancy. like her with the "keep the leg straight" thing. There's a Master Class on shooting with Steph Curry where he explains that "you should always do [X], it's super important", and then a video of him absolutely never doing that when he actually shoots. The greats do things intuitively, not cerebrally is the takeaway here, so watch them in action and copy that.

Coach Li is absolutely right. Sanda/Sanshou was honed in modern wars and is composed of martial arts that have roots in older martial arts that were honed in older and even ancient wars. The mindset is based on actual combat, hence the need to win then and there and as soon as possible. Not like sport or modern day martial arts where setups can take as long as you want because min-maxing for points is the only priority or going to ground when you're losing doesn't mean you've lost, because the fight continues on the ground and you can take your sweet ass time down there.

I did judo as a kid around 12-13. We trained in a abandonned school basement. The main coach was a former african champion, the other teacher we didn't know much about but was vicious when sparring. We didn't really do belts we would just fight any one training there and would share the belts we had. it was very raw and informal dojo. Kids and adults fighting and you'dd fight anyone there, you'd get tough real quick, those who didn't progress would quit from always being tossed. One time the master told us we are going to a tournament so we went. In my first fights I just tossed the guys and ipon them, last fight the guy was resisting more, it ended up on the floor and I just arm barred him. Instantly disqualified. No one told me you couldn't with a yellow belt. I should have continued and get serious about it. I loved it, I was unthrowable and a dude I was beating easy all the time became a national champion. Brother in law took me to a jujitsu/mma try for free day as a now forty year old dude and beat everyone but the master and tied with is assistant, I couldn't find a finish. I was in pain for a weak, bit I loved it. thanks for listening to my story with martial arts.

1. swing leg through the target 2. on ball of foot of non kick foot, push off ground with kicking foot, throw hip through, pivot ground foot, leg straight like baseball bat 3. chambering, extend leg? 4. swing arm open up chest, across or down to hip, counter balance, pull self through kick 5. pull forward with front leg, the rotate like first step of sprint

This was a great video. Well done Sensei Seth! It's extremely difficult and takes a lot of time to get effective in capoeira. But when used by a genuine practitioner. Yes, it can be effective. This took a lot of guts to attempt. I can't stress it enough. If you want to be well versed in capoeira it takes a LOT of hours and Years of dedication.

With several years of experience in martial arts you can certainly learn from books. The point with the books was to spread the knowledge and allow people to learn from those books. That also goes for DVDs as well. They were made so people could learn from them. The more experience you have in training martial arts the more easy you can learn from DVDs and books. As long as you are not just doing solo training it will be fine.

This is... interesting, but it would be nice to see you go to a traditional Aikido dojo with a connection to Hombu dojo. This teacher doesn't seem to have a deep grasp of Aikido, it seems more like something he learned on the side.
