My dyslexia is really, really bad and fingerspelling seems to be the biggest reason I'm struggling with BSL. I got them all but had to replay one or two of them because of speed Thanks.

Hi there! Why is there a difference in ASL and BSL and also, NZSL I want to learn, I don't know any deaf people. But it would be nice to be able help them, I work in customer service. Thank you.
Thanks Dan. Had my morning coffee and watched this. In the US, signs touching the nose mostly have an insulting racial component. Curious about signs to avoid or be careful with in BSL? Perhaps this isn’t the forum. Would love to FT with you and ask a million questions. Hahaha. Do you lecture or teach elsewhere? B

I had a patient today asking for directions in the hospital. He was the nicest person I have ever met. I walked him to where he wants, but I felt so guilty for not knowing even the basics of sign language. We walked to his destination in silence, and I thought, the world must be a lonely place for him. If only i just knew a few gestures, we would have had a simple chat on the way, and that would have brought both of us a small moment of happiness… so thank you for this, I will try harder to expand my knowledge about BSL

I felt weirdly motivated whilst learning! What does the lip pattern bit mean?
@jeryth0575 күн бұрын
Pretend you are saying weeeeeee but silently
@SomeoneBeginingWithI4 күн бұрын
lip pattern is what your mouth is doing while you make the sign. Lip pattern and facial expression are very important in BSL and can change the meaning of some signs.

My high school has a sign language course, but I never got to do more than one year of it. I still have the textbook, and I absolutely loved the experience of it. Such a fascinating and intuitive language, I definitely want to continue learning it.

Sign language is by far the coolest language ever (obviously there are different types ,asl, bsl etc) its so cool that we can comunicatw with only are hands and arms❤❤

These are so helpful! It would be even better if you could repeat the sign while standing at an angle so we can better understand the direction of some sign ❤

My sister (I call there that even though we are not related) has a hearing disability but she can speak and somewhat hear, and I understand her very well. My grandma adopted her when I was 7 and she was 9. I only learnt a few signs because we could communicate fairly enough. She married a husband from UK who cannot hear at all and now that I am a grown up I feel so horrible for never learning the sign language- I should have just asked her to teach me (it was back in 90ies). I am doing it now to show her and her family I love them. Thank you for this super nice video, it is very helpful!

Thank you for explaining that hand swapping is not allowed. I am going to have to re-learn as I learned fingerspelling when I was about 8or 9 but have swapped and changed hands all the time. I am left handed and over 50 so that's my excuse. I shall try to remember that my dominant hand is the pen; that is so useful, thank you
@jeryth05710 күн бұрын
P.S. I find it easier to mirror your signs for right handed people. But I don't have the flexibility to bend my hand like you do. Will it be okay?
