I stopped caring about M. Ball when I found out he was a smoker, something I've hated since both my parents smoked. When this popped up on YT I did a search and found this article: "Michael Ball: I quit smoking when it almost ruined my voice MICHAEL BALL, 48, built an international music career on his wonderful singing despite being a heavy smoker for more than 30 years. Here he describes what finally helped him kick the habit... By Cheryl Stonehouse Mar 8, 2011" > I didn't follow up on what may have happened after that.

Peter Polycarpou - what a fantastic singer and actor. I saw him in 1985 in the original cast of "Les Mis" (London) and he was fantastic in that as well.

My unsolicited opinion 😂: The fact that the OG material of Martin Guerre was some of the most passionate music the duo created and was buried by producers should have been a crime. The duets and choral numbers in the OG Martin are stunning and some of their best. Problematic story-wise over all? Yes. But, throw it all out and bring back bits in different form? No. The show didn’t need to be a blockbuster like Mis and Saigon. It would have done well on a smaller scale with most of the OG music in place. I am an original cast Les Mis from 1985 fan of S&B. Their third collaboration was wonderful. Mackintosh dropped the ball big time with this one. Just saying 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

More? 🤦🏻‍♂️ This show’s treatment from the outside is similar to Webber’s “Aspects of Love.” Such a stunning piece that could be set aside from all the big ones and live on its own. Webber himself was quoted saying that Aspects was his best work (before he salvaged it to death to create his “Frankenstein’s monster,” Sunset Boulevard) To me, since first hearing this score so many years ago as a Les Mis and Miss Saigon freak, Guerre can hold its own- without Mackintosh’s meddling.

I have a handful of showtunes on my playlist, including this. But I don't think I've ever actually deliberately listened to this on my playlist; unless I'm alone.

I’m convinced Lea can’t play a role that doesn’t make me cry. Literally every character I’ve seen her play has brought my grown ass to tears. It’s just so beautiful.

Yes we start talking in English as soon as we can at age of 2 our School Curriculum is taught in English and Tagalog 😊. But Lea was 17 when she got the part for Miss Saigon and she lived in London and just naturally adopted the accent.

Not to discredit Hugh Maynard's performance in the 2014 revival, but the original rendition by Peter Polycarpou is so much more of a enriching remorseful march where John is declaring to the world that it's their fault these kids exist in the first place. Like he's pleading for forgiveness for his sins, the opening of Act II being a powerful dichotomy to the opening of Act I where he and the Marines are effortlessly screwing prostitutes. To me there's just something way more haunting about this performance where I believe he's trying to take responsibility for his actions as an admission of guilt. I just didn't feel the same vibe from the knee-jerk crying reaction the John gives in the 2014 production.

I was watching this musical on Broadway, enjoying it, then right after intermission, this song comes on and sucker punches you. I thought Bring Him Home in Les Mis was emotional, but this song tops that!

I saw the musical for the first time during its revival several years ago, and didn't know what to expect from it because I hadn't heard any of the songs to that point. This one really caught me off guard in the audience, and they still played the video of the real children in the background.
