It's ironic that "Hawk" Harrelson was announcing the game because he has a big time mancrush on Yastrzemski.

That’s why the word “Professional” is not in the NBA. Typical 70’s ball.

I seen Al make a shoestring catch in left field robbing the Yankees of a win in their own stadium. He’s been the reason I’m still a Tigers fan all these years later 😃⚾️

The OG dance drill team. The Rangerettes still perform at the Cotton Bowl today, albeit with canned music instead of the band and at Jerry World rather than Fair Park. All of the bowl games had their own brand of halftime pageantry, from the spectacles of the Orange Bowl to the New Orleans jazz of the Sugar Bowl.

Some of my fondest memories are watching the Tigers with my dad in the 60’s. Had the chance to meet Al Kaline a few occasions after he retired. Down to earth and humble as they come.

Incredible footage of West at 1:04. Watch his gesture and, what appears to be frustration/apology to coach Joe Mullaney who seems to reassure him with a pat. The announcer said that West missed a couple of late jumpers in overtime and knowing Jerry's mentality, he was likely blaming himself for the loss (despite his 60-footer that sent the game into OT!)

The first time I saw this was at the movies. Myself, two brothers, mother and father lined up down the street. More than 50 years ago. Mother and father have passed and neither my brothers or self are young but I remember that Saturday night like it was yesterday. The magic of a bygone era. For "Babes in Toyland" it was again queueing down the street for a mid week matinee (school holidays) before the theatre even opened. I was so excited during "Swiss Family Robinson" I spent most of the movie standing up. Getting tickets for "Mary Poppins" just wasn't a thing so we ended up with the five of us plus grandmother and aunt taking a train to the city. I consider myself so blessed to have watched all of these on DVD with my own children.

My childhood hero and the only athlete or celebrity I genuinely shed a tear for when he passed away. I don't know where that comment about Kaline breaking up double plays harder than anyone comes from. I remember reading accounts from middle infielder's who said Al was one of those guys who never took a cheap shot or slid in harder than he needed to. Nobody was more respected than #6. Mickey Mantle called him one of the best outfielders he ever played against and the one guy nobody ran on. Everywhere you looked when I was a kid the #6 was ironed onto our Tiger tee-shirts. Al, Gordie, Barry, Stevie, Tram, one thing about Detroit, we had a lot of high-caliber high-class great players roll through town. From Barry handing the ball to the ref to Gordie helping push motorists out of the ditch in the Winter, they were all good guys. Miss ya Al. You, Ernie, everyone from those magical summer nights when I was just a pup sitting on the porch and tuning into WJR at night to hear the games on my transistor radio. I still remember my first game at the old Stadium, how that green just exploded as me and Pops emerged from the shadows of the concourse. The time and the team that made me fall in love with baseball.

Al Kaline was my favorite A.L. player. As a kid I had a card baseball game called 'Be A Manager.' My dad, my brother and I drafted teams and played seasons. Al hit 3rd in my lineup. Good power and hit for average.

I was too young to remember Al Kaline but i know i seen him play in person and tv. I was born in late 1968. I would of been 4 yrs old at this time in 1973. We went to games when i was in diapers i was told and all through high school. Every year at least once.

Can't see the line, so it's impossible to know for sure whether it was fair or foul. But if it was fair, there was definitely fan interference. The ball was touched by the fan. It can't be fair and no fan interference. It would have to be foul with no interference or foul with fan interference, because the ball definitely changes direction. In any case, the call was wrong.

What a sad sickening difference between what we typically see now with contemporary females and girls and women in the past! These girls in this video are made up with pretty hair styles and are in excellent shape physically as they prance and dance and move about accentuating their femininity in contrast with the masculinized, unmade and unkept females we are subjected to seeing now.

Pete was fun to watch. Most people today only associate him with the scandals and all that. It's a shame because he was very well respected as a player who played EVERY single game and gave all he had in each one. It's miraculous that he wasn't on the DL half the time because he was always going all out . A switch hitting doubles machine. Rose is second all time in career doubles. He hit hard line drives in the gap . Not a slap hitter. Able to play adequate defense at the major league level at several positions. Well enough to be elected to the all star team at 5 of them. He might have played too long but he's hardly the only star player who has done that. Rose was the guy you pointed out to your son as an example of how baseball is supposed to be played. And I'm interested in anyone's opinion about what kind of man he is or what he's done besides playing ball, so please save it for someone else.

I was a 16 year old from Michigan at this game with my family and relatives from the Boston area. My mom grew up in Hudson MA, moved to MI and became a big Tigers fan. Al Kaline was my favorite Tiger, so to see him hit a HR in this game was awesome. I was fortunate to run into Mr. Kaline at Oakland Hills Country Club many years later were he was kind enough to sign an autograph for my mom. He truly was a great baseball player and gentleman.
