It has been awhile since I posted a Larry Bird clip so here is one of my favorites. The rival Celtics and Sixers are locked in a tight contest in Game #5 of the 1985 Eastern Finals, and Boston looks to Larry Bird to eliminate the Sixers. But in this instance Larry Legend misses the game-clinching shot only to show he is a Hall of Famer on both ends of the court with the game on the line. Gil Santos and Hall of Famer Bob Cousy provide the commentary. No ownership of this material is claimed.

It's funny because everyone remembers his steal against the Pistons two years later as it has been replayed over and over. Thanks for reminding us about this one as well.

Retro Maven, I think on your writing on the screen, when you had that both Sixers and Celtics said they're rivalry was more intense than with the Lakers. That's because they're Eastern Conference foes, and used to facing each other in the Eastern Conference and in the same Atlantic Division, both Sixers and Celtics are use to each other, not only in this era, but for decades before this. Now I'll say this, there's no rivalry that compares to the Lakers-Celtics, the two most historical great franchises that has elite legends battling each other for the bigger goal in the league, wanted to beat each other in the worse way possible, that's why we're even with the most championships now, that's what both franchises play for, that's why they both just hang championship banners only, no such thing as division and Conference banners, just hang the bigger one only, and that's the way it should be and continue to be.

It was a different kind of rivalry but I would argue just as intense because as you pointed out they played each other 6 times during the season as opposed to Celtics-Lakers who had only 2 regular season games. But I'm sure if you asked Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, and later Bird and McHale they would agree with me.

@retromaven2159 Well at least Bird, McHale, part of them would say Philly, but I think, they would say the rivalry with the Lakers is bigger, cause of the championship that was at stake.

I though Bob Gorman and Tom Heinson were the announcers for Celtic home games.

It depended on which of the 2 local Boston networks were carrying the game. In this case it was WBZ TV 4 with the legendary Gil Santos (longtime voice of the Patriots) and Celtics HOFer Bob Cousy. Mike Gorman and Tom Heinsohn were the broadcasters when (then) Sportschannel did the games.

@@zt1053 I don't think so. After Channel 4 lost the contract WLVI picked up the road games. But my memory gets a little fuzzy after that..
