I've had three SBC's over the years (Con/ofe). That's not because they wore out, that's because they failed one way or another. The last one came apart internally and jammed itself engaged earlier this year. SBC wouldn't even give me 10% off towards another clutch. I have no knowledge of Valair but that's who I'll get next time.

That sounds like a rough situation: “the last ten of these synchronizers have had fitment issues..”. Sucks to be those ten customers, but I realize that we as technicians learn things the hard way sometimes.

Are there any parts that should be upgraded in the g56 while its apart other than the case or the better input shaft? Im kinda in this boat something in mine let loose yesterday started as an issue with first being hard to shift into then something broke locking first out all together to now any motion in forward or reverse is binding internally. Idk what kind of price tag im looking at but im sure its not good.

Dodge never could build or keep a decent transmission in their trucks. All garbage. Seeing video's like this make me not regret having my 2004 with 61k miles crushed. Stiff shifting nv5600 paired up with a notorious injector failing commonfail was the best decision.

@AdamLongint0x191f2 A new venture will never see that many miles without a rebuild. Mine had 61k on it and I had it crushed one it was a nightmare to shift two it cost thousands to rebuild and that's if you can find parts three tired of the commonfail cummins.

I love your videos, very informative. I've been watching them all. Any downside of running the old style wide idler gear setup compared to the new style other than parts availability? If one wanted to change to the new style I take it that would require the new style case, idler, countershaft, and reverse gears right?

You recommend 50 weight oil for the G56. I tried that up here in NH for a year (Delvac 50) and when the cold hits, the truck is virtually undrivable. Shifting is barely possible. Even double clutching you have to jam the shifter for every gear. Switched to Amsoil ATF and shifting is much better.

Is there an aftermarket conversion from the stupid internal slave / throw out combo on the GM NV4500 to an external slave cylinder / clutch lever and ball to bell housing set up out there?

I did something very similar on my 4500, but my splines were already worn tf out, so i used an ultra high strength high temp epoxy to fill the spline gaps and the , then flipped my stock nut around and used the shoulder to support and center the nut, coated the nut threads in that same epoxy, then heat cured the epoxy, then welded the nut to the gear. Idk how long it will last but I got 7500 miles on it so far no issues and it was cheap.

My last clutch was a SB 3250 in my 05 HO with a 5600, after watching this im gonna try the Valair DD org quiet in my 07 G56 Dually instead. Whatever is in it now is awful, extremely heavy pedal and instant on/off, There is no smoothness even when making rolling shifts. Makes driving the truck more of a chore than an enjoyment honestly.

I got the non quiet dual disk Valair clutch. It does make some noise. I do have pretty slow shifts with it though, also hard to get into first and reverse. Makes me wonder if it’s dragging a bit.

I'm in the middle of a rebuild and cannot for the life of me find 6th clutch gear. Don't need the whole package Mopar sells (wouldn't spend $2k on it if I did), and Mercedes and Dodge , no help, it's like a phantom part. I found a part in Russia, but $304! I just bought the 5th clutch gear for $125, so why is 6th over double that?

Wondering if you would have a solution to my problem (and if its the clutch then ill be buying valair which i likely will already because my south bend shifts like garbage). I have a 12v cummins with a nv4500 i rebuilt with all high quality parts, with the south bend organic/ceramic dual disk and upgraded input. I have a np241dhd and dana 80 disc rear end that was recently rebuilt. Last year i got a 5" aluminum driveshaft made because my slip joint failed on my stock steel shaft. The aluminum shaft amplifies a god awful rattling sound that i compare to a concrete saw. Its significantly louder than my exhaust under load, especially in 4th. Would swapping to a valair eliminate this sound? Its unbelievably frustrating to spend $3k (canadian) on a clutch and $1500 for a drive shaft for it to make my truck sound broken all the time. Yes, we get absolutely screwed on cost, its Canada.

I have done a lot of work "especially engine" on my 05 dually. Have a 5th wheel and travel the western mts. This has been in my plans lately But so far have just triple wrapped exh. from engine past the trans. Good maintenance and quality lube is important but heavy loads long hills and high temps are reason for added insurance.

I had my 5600 rebuilt a couple years ago and every since it’s been rebuilt my shifter seems to float across the rack and you cannot feel the “detents” of the gear making it very difficult to find each gear. For example my shifter goes to the left past 1st and 2nd I have to come back to the right a bit to find the gears. Same goes for reverse. Any suggestions? I had the trans back at a different shop for an input shaft and they didn’t have an answer for me. Thank you !

I have a NV5600 on my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 5.9 diesel . It has a South bend Duel Friction and the throw-out bearings makes a dry grinding sound . This is my second Throw-out and from the start the second one makes the same dry grinding sound. The mechanic said he thinks it is . So now after seeing this video maybe its time for a change . I load a 3,500 lb camper and pull a trailer that when loaded is about 3500 lb . Which Valair would you recommend for me application ? So tired of the grinding sound every time i put the clutch in . People look at me and its embarrassing What would the price be for the Valair ? Thanks
