I wish I'd understood how lucky we all were back then. Some of you did. I wish I'd shared your wisdom.

Thank you for the video. What strikes me the most here is how Federer seems able to do big damage every time he uses his forehand. It is something we tend to forget while seeing him play from 2010 and onwards but his forehand used to be the best ever seen on a tennis court. Every player feared it on the tour, it was an extraordinary weapon. And yet some people argue that 2017 Federer is better than his 2006 version. Give me a break. He was incredibly fit, strong, quick and lethal that year; his best chance to beat Nadal in the RG final for sure. And yet… The game he loses at 6-1, 0-1, while serving, is the turning point. He leads comfortably 40-0 and still manages to lose the game by playing horribly all of a sudden. This was such a sad day.

I fully agree, the Federer of 2006-2007 is clearly superior to that of 2017, Roger was never physically gifted like Novak and Rafa but in his best years he was impressive in how he moved and impacted with a unique talent. This Nadal at Roland Garros was invincible.

This was the first match of Roger's I ever watched and I was stunned that he beat my childhood idol, "Pistol" Pete Sampras. Pete Sampras winning the US Open in 1990 beating Agassi in the final, was the first tennis match I ever saw. As a kid throughout the 90's, Sampras was my tennis hero. When Roger beat him here, it did not feel like passing the torch or changing the guard. In fact, I was pretty upset 🤪 Mostly because I felt Pete's career was approaching the end and I wanted him to win another Wimbledon. Back then, Roger showed glimpses of his brilliance, but he was still pretty inconsistent. Also, I wasn't made into an instant Roger Federer fan after this match. The matches that turned in me into a fan which never missed another one of his games since, were the matches at the 2003 Tour Finals and AO 2004. Actually the whole 2004 tournament that Roger did, impressed me a lot. After he won Wimbledon in the previous year, which I was very glad for, I was still not 100% convinced about him. His displays at the 2003 Tour Finals and 2004 AO Open finally won me over as an absolute fan.

@@TvRFReloaded Oh absolutely. Only people who saw Pete play can understand the dynamic he brought on to the court. I remember when he won his last slam at the US Open 2002, again beating Agassi in the final, I felt the circle is now complete and from the way that played out, I was sure that is pretty much the end. He wanted to go out with a bang and he did it. It did not surprise me that one year later he retired officially, after 1 year of not playing any matches anymore.

Exquisite work with this one, mate! The 2006 and 2007 RG finals are often found in bad quality, but this is super! Thank you! I hope the RG channel will get to these matches someday. I believe had Roger won that Rome final earlier that year, he would have had the confidence to take this one too. 2006 was probably Roger's best clay year, when he played amazing in MC, Rome and RG but always ended up losing to the phenomenon that was Rafa on clay.

36:17 That netcord, never knew that even happened. Never realized Nadal was that close to getting to 40-15 and 2 championship points right there at which point he likely finishes the match right there without needing the tiebreak. You learn something new every day! Bar 2008, Roger always competed well vs Nadal but could never translate that into a win against him at Roland Garros. Never even managed to win more than 1 set per match at FO vs Nadal. Also HOW GOOD WAS FEDERER'S DEFENSE ON THE NEXT POINT AT 30-30!!!!!!!!

Fed had a real chance of getting more than one RG trophy from 03-07, considering the finalists in this timeframe.I get that Nadal, arguably the best teenager in the history was also there, but he wasn’t allowed to drink in the US going into RG07. Of course he dominated, but it could have been so much more. Literally if he had just stepped up a fraction more in his many wasted opportunities, he’s the one with the records. But that’s the story of his career, full of what ifs, would have, could have, should have,… I prefer Djokovic but initially I was all Roger. He was the one who inspired me to play and watch tennis since I was 6. I broke my TV when Fed lost the wimby 14 final. Being his fan is painful.

@@NamTran-xc2ip why do you prefer djokovic, though?
@NamTran-xc2ip3 күн бұрын
@@TvRFReloaded I wasn’t at first since his play style was unattractive to me, also his retirements mid match and lack of fitness a little bit. But as I grew older, my admirations only grew. He came from a war torn country, his parents were in debt in hope of Djokovic being successful at tennis while they were being bombed by NATO, in contrast to Nadal and Federer who was very fortunate. I really like David Ferrer, he’s nowhere near what you call a generational athlete, yet he made use of everything he got and achieved a lot. Kinda similar to Nole here if you know what I mean. Djokovic doesn’t have a lethal forehand like Fedal, yet through hardwork and peserverance he is the one at the top. Just look at his mentality and returns. He just step up when it matters the most, even with all the shenanigans.
