As an owner of a two tones Datejust one it was great to see the movement actually working, it's a piece of history IMO and people thinking it's "cheap" are wrong since it's very advanced ans well built. I do own several high end watches from top brands but it's always a pleasure to wear that quirky and original watch, it's design is as different too

Awesome to view your work on this incredible beauty. Am just starting on my journey with Railroad pocket watches. Can anyone please estimate how much such a Fishscale Bunn might sell for in this condition in the 2024 market?
@JoeZaccardelli2 ай бұрын
Well from you 2 comments so far, your collection will be great. You're looking at some nice watches. Fishscales such as this vary with price, condition, case, dial, hands, serviced etc. Putting a price on it is somewhat difficult, since they only made around 320 of the 23 jewel OF fishscale model.

I’m still a little new at working with watches. What is the reason for the finger cots?

To protect from getting finger prints and oils on the watch from your fingers. This can sometimes leave a stain on the metal itself.

1:19 My grandfather's watch is an Elgin seven-jewel, stamped electroplated case, the only cheaper were the unjeweled "dollar watches". It's value is as a keepsake, it barely runs and it's not worth the cost of a basic service.

@JoeZaccardelli Watch repair shop sees them go as high as 1200.00 to 2250.00. I'll settle for about 800.00 canadian. My problem is I don't have any online stuff. Makes selling difficult.
@JoeZaccardelli3 ай бұрын
@@user-lr3qg1lf1u wow that is higher then I have seen them go for. There is the 950e that brings more money than the 992E. I've sold a few in the past and most prices are in the 350 to 600 range depending on condition and what dials etc. The earlier 992E with the small lines do bring more, but I believe yours being a 1936 would be the wide lined. I may be wrong however. That is selling online prices and in the US. Could be different in Canada. Good luck!

I have a Elgin pocket watch and i dont know nothing about the watch. I want to sell It. Im un Spain but i dont want to have a bad sell. How i should do?
@JoeZaccardelli3 ай бұрын
You should do a little homework on it. Figure out the serial number look it up, then go to ebay or a similar site and see what the current value is. Im not sure who to recommend to sell to in Spain. However, if you sell to a collector you will usually get more. If you sell to a resell shop, you will not get as much, as they need to make money on it as well. Hope that helps.

EBay isn't a good place for determining value of anything. People often think more highly of their stuff than the market does, so they post it there, hoping to get a small fortune for it, only to discover that there's no interest in it at that price.
@JoeZaccardelliАй бұрын
@lewis2553 ebay is actually one of the best places to determine price. But only if you look at the right data. The key is looking at the sold items not the current items. Curious where you go to determine market value.
@lewis2553Ай бұрын
@@JoeZaccardelli Well, you're probably right, there. I didn't think about that. I never went there to look. But, even then, amateurs such as myself, might have overpaid for some of those items. Still, I guess there is a good supply of amateurs out there.!😅

@lewis2553 not trying to be right...if there is a better way I'm all for it!! On my videos you see the price in green, that shows what it sold for. Just wondering if you can help me out. I recently acquired a 163 identical to yours shown in the video. My dilemma is trying to find the balance jewels for the watch. The lower jewel is cracked making the watch run about a minute or two fast in a 24 hour period and unable to adjust. The jewels on this watch were oversized and unable to locate. Could the be Hamilton jewels?
@JoeZaccardelli5 ай бұрын
They usually have 2 or 3 different options with lower jewels. The difference always being the pivot size of the hole, 10, 11 or 12 are the usual size. However, every time I have ever replaced a balance staff on a bunn special 163 I usually had to polish the pivot to make it fit right. I hope this answered your question .

I have one of these watches. My father gave it to me, I think in 1973. I recently had the battery replaced, but it must not have been a fresh one, as it quit working 8 months after replacing. I wanted to see a video to see if this was something I could do myself
@JoeZaccardelli5 ай бұрын
That is definitely a great gift to receive. Some batteries will drain faster than other, I try to use energizer or renata. I would be very curious to know if you ended up doing the battery replacement yourself. One of the most important tools would the the correct caseback opener. However, if you never done it, might be a good idea to take it to someone with more experience. Especially for a nice watch like that.
