Didn't the American magazine Billboard who run the American charts vote Wigan Casino best nightclub in the world 2 or 3 times in the seventies, and that was at the height of studio 54. The records that didn't sell in the US got used as ballast in cargo ships, and when they came to Liverpool, the dockers being good scousers 7sed to steal them and that washow obscure black soul first got into the North West.

I've watched this a few times over the years,i love it. I can remember back to when i took my then girlfriend to a northern do at Queen's Hall in Bradford on our second date and she was spellbound.She couldn't believe that the guys outnumbered the girls on the dancefloor.😅
@rooie16Ай бұрын
I took my now wife to a Northern do for a second date too. Similarly, she found the dance floor demographic a bit of a surprise. She often reminds me that I said to her before we went in (I think it was Keele), “If you don’t like it, we won’t come here again” knowing what I really meant was “If you don’t like it, you won’t be seeing me again”. Thankfully, she embraced it and we’ve been married for 30+ years and we’re looking forward to the Llandudno weekender in July. 😃

Great vid, but no, not everyone was a junkie. Yes ,it did exist, but not everyone took drugs, we loved the music and could dance for the feeling that the tunes would create in your mind to make you feel happy/sad. Some might call it SOUL

yet another example of British youth taking American music back to America. From Stoke, the home of Lemmy and Slash.

Sorry but 'I Can't Help Myself' by the Four Tops has absolutely nothing to do with the evolution or development of Northern Soul music.

There is no way to explain how you felt just getting ready to go to Wigan was from Liverpool not many people knew what northern soul was. I only found it on holiday in the Isle of Man. My first experience was Dobie Gray out on the floor. Then there was no looking back. Keep the faith
