In northern Canada, people use adhesive aluminum foil and roll it onto their bedroom windows with a rolling pin. Especially those who move up north from south of 60.

The reason we are Nordic country, but not part of Scandinavia, is that only Norway and Sweden are Scandinavic countries. Name Scandinavia comes from Scandies mountains that situates at the region only of those Norway and Sweden.

As a Finn, I have not notised that we don't introduse our selves to others. I find it weird that people can work with each other without knowing their names. I work in social field and therefore meet people all the time. Introdusing and remembering all names is important. Not paying attention to that makes your work difficult and make you look like not caring person.

Ive been learning finnish for nearly 2 years now and all I can say to everyone who's learning it too - just be patient and keep on learning. It is a rather slow process, but everytime you learn something new and recognize it in spoken finnish, you get so happy. Everything is possible to learn, dont let anyone tell you otherwise :)

Maybe this is why Finland is the happiest country... because they see things the opposite way of the rest of the world.

I remember I was at a music festival once in July, in Jyväskylä, which is in Southwest, it was before there was Google maps, I have had a paper city map, and I was still able to read it after midnight (it was not like day-bright, but still).

I understand what you're going for, but that's like saying "rocket science is just like calculus, just try harder." Any language can be learned, but that doesn't mean it's easy.

Hmmm... Not so straightforward. I say "mä en tiedä". "tiiä" would be more east or north, Savo/Karelia/Lapland where they would also instead of "minä" or southern "mä" use "mie".

As Finns we use reverse psychology. We use it at work and at home. I feel the thought is that if you say you can't do it, to someone. Their attitude taps into SiSu. In affect, "I'll show them I CAN do it! You won't be telling I can't," type of attitude. It's a weird but old concept and it is starting to change to a more positive type of encouragement. Call it, a slow cultural change.😊
