i have a 2023. it has collision sensors beneath the rear tail lights. did you have an issue with that? also, how do you feel about the transition from the existing rear bumper plastic that is left after the cut on the top from the hatch to the steel? is it flappy or unfinished looking?
@DBCoffroad
@DBCoffroad 5 күн бұрын
I don’t have rear collision sensors. I didn’t even know that was an option. The flap is good looking. There is a piece of styrofoam under the stock bumper that I left under the cut plastic. It keeps it from flapping or flexing. Overall it’s a very clean looking fit.

The real world weakness of the 5th gen is the trans. Reliable of course, but too few gears. There's enough power, it just can't get to the road well with the 5 speed. Thank you for all your work and a wonderfully didactic pair of videos. I'm afraid you could have saved a lot of money by pairing the Bilstein 5100 to Dobinsons coil springs (my mods). To be precise: DOBINSONS COIL SPRINGS PAIR (RED) - C59-314R C59-314R 1 $270.00 USD $270.00 USD DOBINSONS COIL SPRINGS PAIR (RED) - C59-323R C59-323R 1 $270.00 USD $270.00 USD The front springs lift by 2.5 inches, and are heavy duty (they accommodate 150 pounds more than stock, for the weight of the bumper and winch); the rear springs lift 1/2 an inch. Since the rake of 4Runner is 2 inches, my rig sits perfectly level. At the fender, the height in both front and rear is 38 inches and a quarter. I do have Goodrich KO2s which are 270, so half an inch lift is gained that way. The quality of the ride is a far cry better than stock, and then when I had the Bilstein with stock coil springs (I tested this set-up in Moab, and when I cam off ledges I never hit the front bumper, which I used to); Dobinsons make the best coil springs in the market. All that bouncing around that you display with either configuration is gone with these firm and precise coil springs. Like you, I've added quite a bit of weight. Between the extra weight and the slightly bigger tires, my 4Runner was even more sluggish. Then I installed the EVC Throttle Controller--and I was and remain amazed amazed. It's like driving a sprinter, and it costs around $200 and it takes ten minutes to install. I hope all of the above was of help to you and to all who own a 4Runner.

I’ve had the BOTCK for 1.5 years now and I almost have the same setup as you with an RCI gas tank skid plate, 3 inch lift on the rear. Same thing happened like hitting the gas tank with the drive shaft and my aluminum skid actually grinded itself. 🤷🏼‍♂️ But, putting the track bar on the middle hole is what they actually recommend and I did that so now it doesn’t keep hitting the skid anymore but still happens occasionally on really articulated situations. I actually don’t have a lean but maybe because I have both front and rear sway bars on. I have sumo springs bumpstops on the rear and it helps greatly with preventing bottom out. I also have opt offroad rear LCAs because ny OEM got bent from falling on a rock. I adjusted the rear LCAs a hair further back and my true 33s tuck in nicely under the fenders. I agree that 35s is too much for the 4runner. The perfect tire size in my opinion is a 285/75/17 or a skinny 34 inch tire.

I would say it's well known that 35s are just hard to fit on a 4Runner. Because of body kit differences, a GX460 can fit a 35 as easily as a 4runner can fit a 34. Anyway, this is why I did a small 1.5" lift on my 4R. Minimal geometry issues. Retain downtravel. Gonna try to stuff a 285/75r17 soon. Probably will need bumpstops to limit uptravel. But definitely the most cost effective way to get the biggest tire I could think of. These Toyotas love skinny tires for sure

@@DBCoffroad the super adds a lot of power, but the tune, intake & headers, exhaust + cat delete, and tune can add maybe 15hp.
