The did nothing with the ravenwing and the Lion is still overcosted. Other than that yeah I'd say dark angels are in a good place.

I’ve already said this in another comment, but as someone who wants to get into Warhammer with the Dark Angels, these updates to the rules feel very reassuring.

DWK with swords and +1 to wound from one source or another are monsters now, much better than maces on the math.

Inner Circle Companions might be good with Asmodai with his reroll hits ability. Can you attach an Apothecary to the ICC with Asmodai?

Also, the Lion is able to block Dev Wounds now that they count as Mortal Wounds again.

For the Unforgiven Task force the new +1 OC you assign during the Command Phase will stack with the Detachment's OC 1 if your battle shocked during your turn because your the active player. Then you lose the +1 OC when your opponent becomes the active player. Just watched a video on it.

This isnt even a question, and guess what we should be happy to have a real choice, we no longer are stuck with GW and what they deem is a game. The best part is this is happening in mini wargames and in TTRPGs, we're definitely in a golden age.

Some welcome(ish) changes however the Vengeance remains the ginger stepchild tied up in the back garden, in the rain. That unit must really pissed someone off at GW

First time I saw your show. Love the vibe. Relatively new DA player here. Started playing W40K last year. Started out with the blue boys. That did not do it completely for me. Love the lore of DA. Stepped in with DA with the last big box release

if you like bikes then the fnp aura of the Lion can prevent RWBK from blowing up, because hazardous is now just 3 mortals for every type of model. Dark Angels are again the best at using plasma! That goes for Azrael and hellblasters with his inbuilt watcher in the dark. Though hellblasters only have a 50% change of surviving 3 mortals with a 4+++ save, but its still better than not.

It was a decent buff for the Dark Angels but still not good enough to make them more competitive . I think The Inner Circle Taskforce still needs more Deathwing Characters to make it really worth playing and some damagaes that should get back to their index stats (like the Vengeance speeder's plasma cannon) . But it is a good start from GW . Made both Knights and the Companions more of a choice now .

It's good to see that they have attempted to fix Dark Angels. It's a shame that had to destroy the space marine codex in the process.

I still wish that it was deathwing and not just infantry that gets the buff, otherwise we make all dreadnoughts and a few vehicles deathwing when I believe only one detachment strategem for inner circle does something not only infantry deathwing. Hyper elite but it does force it to be infantry heavy, and while I wish I could bring even more terminators the cost of them really limit the amount of them I can bring. leaving only much more fragile generic marine bodies

I’ve been building “my loyalist DA” for the last couple months. Insisting to all my loyalist friends, they are strong and have play (minus asmodai, there is no world he’s worth his points) now with new changes? Chefs kiss even easier to win games! Much more synergy. Phil check out chaplain with vanguard vets. Everyone with inferno pistols🎉🎉🎉

While I feel like they're in a better place, I do feel like there are missed opportunities. ......Deathwing is no longer all Terminators. Deathwing is no longer all invulnerables..... I'll try to adjust, but there is a glaring issue (as pointed out by others). An increasing number of Tacticus units are now Deathwing, but no similar level of Tacticus Characters that can carry enhancements for the units. Feels like the build options for Inner Circle TF would explode if that was fixed. It would be nice if Captains and Lts got their swords bumped to S6 and gained a keyword on them too, to satisfy those who like making their space knights more knightly. I think a good (albeit maybe short-term) opportunity that was missed was not making Vanguard Vets Ravenwing. That would/could have added nice options to Company of Hunters. Might have potentially opened the door for new ways to utilize Inceptors also. . . Unforgiven TF may see some diversity problems due to trying to get the damage in a reliable state, but it may not be too bad with the changes. Feels like the changes may make someone happy in terms of pushing scoring to the forefront, but it would be a thing of wonder if regular Tactical Marines were able to run like Black Templar Tactical Marines. Then I think, with the options the stratagems offer, you could probably come up with some nice/varied lists that could be solid. Still. That person that's planning on yeeting a Ravenwing Command Squad down the field and onto an opponent's objective at the last minute to steal it, that person is gonna turn a head or two. Even unattached, with the new detachment rule buff, you could get the Ravenwing Command Squad sitting on OC12 with just 3 models. Easier to hide and could definitely make a difference. A full squad might be able take an objective from an Ork mob. Interesting times. . . Things I've been considering with the changes and trying to "relive" the good 'old days: Tacticus Librarians ~ Does suck you now bring the Psyker keyword to the unit in a manner similar to Sammael bringing the "Fly". BUT! Great way to hand out 4++ saves to Deathwing units/Helblasters and add an extra layer of defense to the army. Following the changes, the mortal wounds that may result from focused witchfire, do count as Psychic damage and allow you to roll your FNP against it. These guys attach to Inner Circle Companions and they have a pretty nice synergy! 3 of these guys plus Azrael allows for 4++'s on 4 different units of your choosing, making for some nice invulnerable spam! Since the units' collective attacks aren't Psychic, you can try to kill anti-psykers before they get the drop on you without giving them their FNP! *BONUS* If killed by a ranged precision attack while attached to Helblasters, you could potentially focus smith on death! Lts with Shields ~ Still a great way to give BGV some extra punch. The rerolls could come in handy (some synergy with Lethal and a nice bump to durability). Plus, falling back and being able to charge again can help combat some of your opponents units fighting first. Easy to swap for a Judiciar/Chaplin though! Phobos Librarians ~ If you like to turtle up, they can allow for some nice support fire. While attached to Eliminators, not only does the squad gain the "can't target outside of 12 ability", but if you're unable to focus witchfire due to possibly losing your Librarian to mortal wounds, the regular witchfire can still do dev wounds while stationary! Las Fusil/Bolt Sniper away! A number of units can still benefit from the Darkshroud......just don't know what the new price is gonna be. It was marked "red", but the price was still 115 if I'm not mistaken. These combined with combos already being used and the damage buff for Knights and Companions. . .feels reminiscent of the days when marines could threaten "big guns" and vehicles were icing on the cake instead of necessary. Enjoy your day though kind sir! Looking forward to what you decide to start running to have fun!

What are your thoughts on deep striking the lion by rapid ingress or otherwise?

For me this new slate changes a lot. I played 12-13 games with Lion. I only left him on shelf when he was nerfed and 350pts. I Play gladius now (inner circle didnt give me fun, if strats were for "deathwing" and not "deathwing infantry" only then maybe my dreds will reconsider ;) But...to the case- through my games with Lion i learned how to use him to max his efficiency- and whatever i did mortals got him sooner or later - now with change to devy wounds being mortals it extends his survivalibity (also with being able to go through ruins 🥰🥰). What.s more you can use his aura FNP 4+ for mortals with overcharging bikes or hellblasters...i love this changes :) !! And DWK are for me (almost always) auto include too:)

I have had Dark Angels for so long and so few of them are painted 😅 I am working on fixing that. I'm happy with most of the changes I don't think it's enough to make them top of the meta but they are atleast better.

I'm really happy with the Dark Angel updates, but I'm shocked that Librarians still don't gain the Deathwing keyword. Even though it's not the biggest deal in terms of gameplay, it feels wrong, almost as wrong as using a librarian in a Black Templar army. I understand that GW doesn’t want to introduce too many big changes at once, but it would also have been nice if the Lion gained the Deathwing keyword and had some more synergy with the Inner Circle Task Force. Currently it is the one space marine detachment that he gains literally no interaction with (aside from AoC) and I feel like that the ICTF should be one of the standout detachments for the Lion to lead. I’m still really excited to try out these new changes, especially the Inner Circle Companions. Looking forward to seeing how Phil’s Dark Angels do in a future battle report!

Note: Inner Circle TF aggressive stance is 1 or more objectives you do not control, not just 2. So pick 'em all!

I still feel gladius or ironstorm are still our best options BUT the Lion and knights are viable again.

From a causal standpoint, I like to use the Unforgiven Task Force for the well-rounded strat selection. I dig the added rule, but I agree with you that it probably won’t make a huge impact in most games.

I've never felt a huge urge to go to big cons, but I'd love to do TMX really for the reasons you mentioned. Can't justify a plane ticket from the other side of the planet for that though. Maybe one day. So great to see everyone getting so much positivity out of these small cons.

I appriciate what you are saying about how cool small cons are BUT. BUT. As someone on the other side of the world, the fact you have a "small" con with classes from two of the very best painters in the world (Vince and Sam) and organised by one of the most well known faces of the hobby propels it into a fairly "huge" event.

It was great getting to hang out with you and have a chance to get to know you better Phil! Hope you can make it out next year! As far as other smaller cons, another one that has been steadily growing is Dragon Fall, which takes place in Lake Geneva WI in the fall. I've gone the last couple years and had a good time.

Definitely yes for smaller cons. ... Granted, even our biggest ones are a whole hog of tinier piglets in a trenchcoat... But regardless, the smaller events are indeed more easier to get into. Cheaper, many a times closer and don't usually have lines to things. Also the seeing more obscure things indeed. Granted, part of it coming from how the "main thing" you go for in a con is smaller in smaller cons, but you still have the same amount of time, so you check your main thing pretty quick and then have time to explore. XD But absolutely recommending smaller things. Even the big ones usually start small, you know? ;)
