Is it always middle age dogs? My dog was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea as a puppy. Which scared me so much that it will reach its worst earlier. He's six now and it has gone from coughing when he plays hard to coughing often even at rest. It's heartbreaking to see. He's been refusing the manuka honey.

Do you have suggestions for finding good veterinarians? I moved to a new state. Since coming here the only thing that matters is money. My previous vets cared for my pet before bringing money up. Here? It's the money before my pet. It was so hard because i had to put my dog of 12yrs down last month and each time they came to discuss treatment like a broken record they just kept reminding me of my $130 walk in emergency fee. Just no care for my pet only their bill they intended to give me. I just dont know what to do. I tried another vet for a puppy i was gifted. $250 for check up and vaccines with a $1k quote for a spay. Like its insane here. Where i come from prices were $50 spay/nueter with $10 vaccinations and this isn't even for low income it was the standard. Anyway looking for advice if possible. Much like the human health care system the veterinarian care system is just profit and not actual health care.

Hey doctor dawson, I may be a little late but I'm facing a few struggles with my bunny. I am in a bad financial spot, but my bunny is 7 months old and sneezing often, I believe around 13 times in a span of 30 minutes. She has a tiny bit of yellow marking on her nose but no mucus. She also gave birth a week ago. I am wondering how much time do i have, she shows no other symptoms and is eating well. The regular vet will open in 3 days and i will take out a loan but I'm wondering if i should go to loan shark and take her to the emergencies vet or wait for monday. Thank you for your information. I kept telling my vet for over a year about these odd sounds my dog made especially when drinking water, not necessarily as he drank but randomly afterwards, I asked for xrays and tests but we were also addressing other concerns like his back with compressing areas, a leg that is affected. So it seemed they just didn't want to deal with it. Finally this month she did xrays and compared to last year's and said collapsing trachea and gave me cough suppressants, and that was it. Gus is 11, mixed breed medium sized dog. I want to be the best parent to him because he is such a loving dog to me all these years. He loves to bark, it's his favorite past time. It's super loud, he is part karelian bear dog, and that's their thing really loud non-stop high pitched barking. I even have hearing loss due to this. I worry this is going to exacerbate the issue. So our journey begins. Thank you again.

Our condominium rules are strict. A lady was feeding a beautiful feral cat for a while, but her health was poor and she passed. She had asked me to continue feeding him. I finally humanely caught him and took him to be neutered, rabies, vaccines, and tested. My intention was to bring him into in my home with my two cats. The beautiful boy was infected with both FeLV and FIV. I am VERY glad I had him tested, as I know he has these viruses and made the obvious decision to leave him outside. I feed him as if he was mine. I do fear that I will not be able to trap him when he gets very sick.

I have an FIV + cat. She has feline herpes symptoms constantly. I've had her 4 years and the herpes never goes away. I have been giving her Llysine constantly and now I'm reading that it doesn't really work. I find that to be the case. I do give her another supplement that is just for overall immune health. I really wish I could eliminate her snot nose.

Pls. help me, my 4 mos. kitten died last Wed. his vet told us he's felv + and injected antibiotics, vit and nsaid. On that morning I noticed his pale gums, he's losing appetite and didn't drink water but still very playful and active. He was brought home and we put dextrose as per doctor's advised and after less than 30 minutes we thought we was asleep as he closed his eyes then feel and had a mild seizure (something like that) and died. Could it be an overdose? Also the vet refused to give us the actual test results and just hand us a handwritten report. I demanded to receive the results but they told us they can only email a report and print then sign it as they cannot produce the actual lab as their machine has no papers.

One of my cats has FIV, the other does not. They groom each other and cuddle and play, share water…the other cat still doesn’t have it.

I took in my grandmothers Sharpei. He was what I like to call "ironed" because he didn't have the normal amount of wrinkles. Pure bred but certainly not show quality. Still the most gentle boy ever. He did have entropion surgery which helped greatly with the eye irritation caused by the eyelid curling under. Sadly he ended up with prostate issues and lost bladder control. Lived to be 12. RIP Ming Ling Daughter has a Pug that's the sweetest but has horrible breathing issues and has gained weight because of it. They had considered breeding her until we sat down and looked at all the harships these dogs have. It would have been cruel to add that to her already complicated life, and really there are just too many of these poorly bred dogs to begin with. Some dogs weve had are Black Lab, Aussie Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Chocolate Lab, Border Collie, Chocolate Lab, German Shepherd. Probably my favorite would be the Black Lab by far.

My vet prescribed gabapentin after ACL surgery. Awful experience. Maybe it was the dosage but she had sedation and scary ataxia. She does very well on tramodol. Just like humans, dogs responses to meds are variable.
