Love your videos. Kim...needing girl gear advice!!! Help please! What brand is your backpack? Looking for one that is light and not to big (for women). I noticed y'all are just wearing 'trail shoes' vs hiking boots. I prefer trail shoes too. Can't tell what brand you have. Any recs? I have Merrell right now but think I might want something with a thicker sole like what you were wearing. Trek poles...can you give me a recommendation? I've never used them before but think I'll try them for Glacier. Any other gear advice? We hike a LOT but usually not such long hikes like we plan to do in Glacier. So I need advice!!! Thank you!!!
@kimberlynolan27454 күн бұрын
The Hoka Stinson 7 trail shoe is what we currently wear for the extra cushion and comfort on longer hikes, however I have had good luck with Nike trail shoes also. The womens Gregory pack has been comfortable and durable. It has seen LOTS of miles 😆 In my opinion trekking poles are a must, especially for downhill. I use kelty brand and they have been great! Using them reduces strain on knees and hips which seems to reduce fatigue for me. Hope this was helpful 👍 Here's to enjoying the wilderness ⛰

@@kimberlynolan2745 Thank you! I'll check those out! Very helpful! Another question...do you think I would need pants hiking in Glacier in late July/early Aug? I always see you in shorts but other videos I see women wearing pants. I personally don't like to hike in pants but I don't want to be cold. So I'm going to bring some leggings. But those aren't easy to get off if it's too warm. Not sure what to do on that. Do you wear shorts and layer with shirts and jackets for the most part? I'm 55 and in good shape, physically active. Have been doing extra walking beyond my normal exercise routine, adding incline on the treadmill, etc. Super excited but this trip is so hard to plan.

@nolanventures4735 күн бұрын
Not open all the way to grinnell glacier and upper grinnell lake as of yet - no way to know for sure when. But soon…maybe? You can go part way and it is pretty cool - just don’t go past the closure. Not safe and fines 💰.
@jatnielramirez31285 күн бұрын
@@nolanventures473 ohhh. Good to know. I will arrive with my wife there next Saturday. Our initial target was the Grinnell, however I guess we will have to try other options, like the Iceberg Lake, Ptarmigan Lake or Avalanche Lake. 🙏🏻🙏🏻. Any other suggestions?
@kimberlynolan27455 күн бұрын
Yes, the trail to Grinnell Glacier is still closed due to snow hazard and unsafe conditions. The hard closure is well marked; it's worth a hike only up to that hard closure point in our opinion for views above lower Grinnell lake....it's beautiful.
