Thanks for your demonstration. I have seen the TEN SISTERS panels for years but the prices kept me from trying them. Watching the process made me anxious……guess I would be afraid of messing up. Great job.

I appreciate the comparisons. . . . But I love the continuing/interlocking RTW. Is there a demo on how to lay that out?
@aquiltingtale623015 күн бұрын
Thanks, Jane! I haven't made a demo like that, but Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics has a method for staying organized with her RTW quilt that looks pretty manageable. :)

Interesting how many people in the US are doing this now, but all hand stitching is popular. I am 70 and have been stitching more than 60 years. I was taught as a child to sew hexagons into Grandmother's Flower garden quilts but we did not use paper templates. If you were a beginner you were taught to mark the quarter inch seams. Recently I tried hexiforms, they don't come out like the paper but I would never use that as a quilt, too stiff. I also tried the technique that Emma Jones KZfaqr does where you put batting and a larger hexigon and sew it around and that has been my fav. I love any quilt as you go technique.

The grid looks very difficult and time consuming.
@aquiltingtale6230Ай бұрын
I can see how it would seem that way. It was actually the fastest method for making this quilt, even with all the filming and explaining. There are many quilt patterns out there that show you where to place each piece of fabric on a grid, if you don't want to figure it out on graph paper like I did. I was just sharing my thought process, but the work has definitely been done for many beautiful quilt patterns if you're ever interested in giving a grid a try. :)
@beckyjohnson3161Ай бұрын
How would it work to make blocks and then sew the blocks together so there is not such a large piece to handle? I have not used a grid like this but sometimes I have made 4 sections to a quilt and then sewn them together so I didn’t have such a large piece to handle. Let me know your thoughts on this. Your quilt is inspiring and beautiful! ❤❤❤
@aquiltingtale6230Ай бұрын
Thanks, Becky! You could definitely make smaller pieces. Just remember, the fewer panels (or partial panels if you want to think in terms of blocks) you fuse together, the more pinning together you'll have to do to connect them later. The more panels you fuse, the less pinning you'll have to do. I like the grid because of its accuracy without having to pin, but if you're good at nesting seams, I think you'd still get the accuracy through pinning too. :)

Thank you for sharing your process. I used to use the journal from Its So Emma but I have too many projects identified. I recently picked up a Martha Stewart Project Planner that works perfectly for me. Additionally I am sharing more on social media so taking more pictures during the process so I can share with a larger community.

I am just planning a photo shoot/memory quilt for my son who is in real estate. My husband has printed 5 collages detailing my son’s life viz boxing, cycling, real estate, childhood and family. I plan to sew a village of 5 buildings and make a flap, but opening like a door and having a “doorknob.” I thought of putting two sided fusible between the layers of the flap to keep it flat. My entire quilt will be hand sewn queen sized. You have given me another idea. Thank you.

Thank you so much for watching! Yes, I am very excited to make this quilt! It makes me so happy to hear you want to try FPP. Small steps are just fine. You might find you love it and want to keep pushing for more complex projects. If you don't enjoy it, at least you'll be able to say you tried it! :) It felt a little backwards and confusing to me the first couple blocks I tried, but after a few, I found my rhythm and it made sense to me. I say this in case you feel frustrated with it in the beginning. It's worth trying a few times. 🩷
