I am curious as to your use of aorist imperatives rather than present imperatives.

Why do some words, like οὗτοί, have two accents? Is it double stressed?
@AlphawithAngela
@AlphawithAngela 4 күн бұрын
Excellent question about the accents in Greek words like οὗτοί! In this instance, the word appears with what looks like two accents because it's followed by an enclitic, which merges with the preceding word much like a contraction in English (I will becoming I'll). This combination causes the second word to essentially 'borrow' an accent from the first-though it's more like 'swallowing up' an accent, since it's not actually double-stressed when spoken. We won't focus heavily on accenting rules at the beginner level, as they aren't crucial at this stage.

Που εισιν αι κλειδες σου; Wiktionary has πῶμα for drink, with a link to unentered πόμα. But there's another, unrelated πῶμα which means "lid", as in the bluefish genus Pomatomus, meaning "split gill cover".

Hi. That is interesting. What do you mean by "Που εισιν αι κλειδες σου;" are you saying that I should have included it?

Fletcher, thanks for your work and this interesting conversation with Angela. We both graduated from Polis Institute albeit not there simultaneously. Interesting to hear about her journey and perspective. Good stuff!! This is my intro to your work as well. 🙏👏

I love these lessons they are so good I was able to understand and read the section where the scripture is being read in the video so cool All Glory to Yeshua!!!,my only question so when I have gone blue letter bible and clicked on words in Greek or Hebrew often times there will be like 6 defintions or 6 seperates word one Greek word could mean,through this course, will people know how to tell which word is a proper English word out of the 5 different possible meanings it would be in a scripture verse?example in the bible pistos πιστός is used and can ethier mean according to blue letter bible 1)trusty,faithful or 2)easily persuaded those 2 definition don't come close to each other how will we know the difference?:)

Thank you for your kind words and insightful question! It's great to see your enthusiasm for learning Greek and Hebrew, and that you are enjoying our lessons. It's important to understand that the meanings of words are best determined by the context in which they are used, rather than strictly from a dictionary or lexicon. Words like πιστός can indeed have multiple translations-such as 'trustworthy' or 'easily persuaded'-and the appropriate meaning often depends on the specific biblical passage where the word appears. In our course, particularly at the beginner level, we focus on the most common and fundamental meanings of words to establish a solid base. As you progress in your studies and become more familiar with the language and its nuances, you will learn how to analyze and interpret the context to choose the most fitting translation for different scenarios. Keep learning the biblical languages and don't give up!

I am using this with my beginning Greek translation-method class. It’s really helpful, every time I see an animal or an object, the word automatically pops into my head. Whereas my flashcard vocab I have to think for a few seconds. Plus the pronunciation is really great! I don’t think my hillbilly accent will be able to sound as good as Angela’s pronunciation though. Thanks for this resource!

This is great feedback, and yet another testimony to how effective this method is for improving vocabulary retention. I'm so glad to hear that the words are sticking and that you find the pronunciation helpful! Don’t worry about your accent; the important thing is you're learning and improving. Thanks for using our resources, and keep up the great work!
