I like the idea of toothpaste tabs but a tube of paste (Toms or David’s) will last 6+mos so I can’t justify the high cost of tabs even to try out. I like my bamboo brush but haven’t yet tried a plastic free bristle one. I switched over to a wooden hairbrush and it was the BEST choice for my hair plus plastic free. I swap back and forth between Earthling bars and commercial curly hair products, it depends on my mood but much like toothpaste it takes about 6+ mos to use up a bottle of shampoo (I’ve gotten down to 1 wash a week regularly and occasionally 2) so I am not feeling guilty about it lol.

I think “necessary” depends on the individual. Personally I 100% would consider the bed hydraulic as necessary since it is a daily use. I often have the mentality of “if it works just make do” which drives my fiancé crazy lol, but there is no reason we should put up with daily annoyances and inconveniences if we have the money to fix the problem
@sustainfem8 сағат бұрын
Yes, it was necessary since you need to get to those items daily and were probably hurting yourselves without the hydraulic lift.

Also fyi, darn tough sources most (i think maybe all?) Of their wool from american farmers! In fact, some sheep we had grazing at the sustainable ag research farm i work at has some of their wool sent to darn tough! Cant speak for all farmers semding to darn tough, but these were very healthy, happy, well taken care of sheep with responsible grazing management, owned by a farmer who clearly cares dearly for them.

It would be cool if you did a video on the environmental impact of war. I've been reading a bit about it recently due to current events. You don't have to focus on any particular war (if you don't want to get demonitized).
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalistКүн бұрын
I've been researching it! I DO have a video up already (long form) about the environmental impact of the US military in particular. For sure would just focus on the broadness of war itself! Glad there is interest in this topic :)

I tried them once it was a travel-sized bottle of their shampoo, I selected the no scent option but because of the aluminum.. the one bottle I had a lingering scent whenever I uncapped it. It wasn't bad though worked well with my hair Wish the company had a bigger bottle-size like an 40oz option, that's my biggest wish. At the moment I've just been refilling my old shampoo bottle at a Zero waste refill store,the only con is not knowing the ingredients in the formula though, my local store owner doesn't want folks to know the brand she's been given the large shampoo jug from.

We call ourselves low waste but actually do most of these. The disposable cutlery prices were ridiculous. I got a fancy boxed cutlery set 27 years ago for $249AUD. They were half price at the time. It's an 8 person setting and we're still using them. A few family members thought we were being ridiculous having such a fancy set for everyday use but are we ridiculous for saving an incredible amount of money by not replacing plasticware daily? They're not into being eco/low/zero waste so I'm only referencing $$$ for this example. Why use rubbish/garbage bags when some things you buy do not come in sustainable packaging? We have wheelie bins for rubbish so do not need big rubbish bags. Instead, we use things such as bread bags, or bags for frozen foods. You already have them so why not use them for things that cannot be recycled, reused or composted.

After I’m done with my last pack of sheets I’m trying a powder. I can’t remember if you review Blueland, I’ll have to go back and look. But Meliora, Charlie’s Soap and Mollys were on my list to look into. The one thing I read about Charlie’s soap is to use a 2nd rinse cycle to get out any leftover powder. Seems wasteful on water and kinda defeats part of the purpose of using it. With everyone talking about Meliora, I think I’ll give that serious consideration. Thanx for all the hard work!

I looked into the TM laundry sheets as they piqued my interest and the first ingredient is an alternative name for sodium laurel sulfate. So not the best. Sigh. I'll keep looking. Also I found it scammy that it shows price per load being what it would be if you used 1/2 sheet yet the instructions say use a full sheet and for a boost use two. lol So it's 25 cents a load if you get the 3 pack, 30 cents a load for the single pack, yet they say .15 per load. Ya gotta watch marketers. lol Oh well, if you find a better sheets one, let us know. I'm interested.

The bleaching process of paper (happens to almost all industrialized paper) has the byproduct of Dioxins. These Dioxins are a strong carcinogen also causing reproductive destruction. Tankers of this chemical were in the port of my hometown and all spilled into our waterways. The site is several years old but still a national priority concern on the EPA's toxic Superfund sites, dangerous to human health. The locals don't even know about this, and fish and feed their families game caught from these waterways.

Aluminum cans are actually the only thing that are reliably and efficiently recycled. Plastic is usually baled and eventually tossed into landfills or the ocean because recycling it is more expensive than making new plastic.
