This is great! I wonder if there's anyone in the UK offering this service? It's almost worth sending a MacBook from UK to Canada to have this work done, though!

Isn't it illegal to upgrade Apple products? I sure wouldn't want Apple to call the FBI on me for an unauthorized SSD upgrade.

Had a "Flexgate" repair issue with my 2016 MacBook Pro. Stumbled across this KZfaq video. I was super impressed with the technique and the quality of the soldering work here wishing there was someone in my area with that kind of talent that could do my repair. That's when I noticed the KZfaq video was produced out of Vancouver BC, a 3 hour drive from me! I made email contact with Sam, the person who did the work in this KZfaq video. He was so gracious in making arrangements with me to immediately take my Mac in and do the repair if I were to make the 3 hour drive up to his shop. Two days later I did, he did and everything came off without a hitch! Sam is my kind of perfectionist. He's very humble, talented down to earth and kind. It was my honor to meet him and I personally feel like I'm the lucky one to have met him, to have had him do my repair and to be able to pay him for his excellent work. I can't thank Sam enough for the seamless way in which he made this happen and I would do the drive all over again, in a heartbeat, to work with someone of this character and quality of workmanship. Thank you so much Sam, from the bottom of my heart. So rare to come across someone with your type of professionalism and customer service these days.

Very impressive, but the average user will never attempt such a meticulous upgrade process. It's a shame that Apple have an anti-upgrade philosophy and charges such high prices!

How are SSDs that small? How is that tiny chip able to store that much data. How slow is the read/write speed?

Is it a flexgate issue when I can only use it in SAFE MODE and connected to HDMI? I cannot boot my laptop in normal boot. After apple logo, my laptop turns into black screen with lines on top.

That's interesting and cool ASMR. Considering the Apple prices to upgrade to larger SSD that are quite expensive - what would be the cost of a skilled human to make such a change (without the drive price) ? I'm curious. In any case, it's a good thing to know there will still be some repairers at a time when all brands want to control all the production chain.
