Oh, we put out new feeders for the Hummers. Used the D500 with the AF-P 70-300, mounted on my very sturdy Leofoto Tripod, and closed up the viewfinder, and stood and waited, with AF ON, and fired away. D500 still holds its own, as You know! I was able to capture an inflight shot of a male, away from the feeder, and it might just make for a ‘Money shot?’ Stay safe and well!

@@forced_perspective In Western Washington it is mostly Garter Snakes. You could probably find Rubber Boas but I have never seen one. In Eastern Washington they have Gopher snakes, night snakes, racers, and Western Rattle Snakes. The Western Rattle snake is very shy. Unless you sit on a stack of rocks in the heat of the day you should be fine. They like to hang out in the rocks to avoid the heat. Eastern Washington has much more temperature changes between seasons that we do on this side of the Cascades. In the winter Eastern Washington gets much colder than in Western Washington. Essentially the temperature you endured while here is typical for Eastern Washington in the winter. In the summer they are much hotter. The reason the snakes like it there is it is dry. The Cascades create two very different environments. Moderate and wet on the west side, the ocean and Puget sound help stabilize our temperature while the mountains make sure the clouds dump the water on this side.

You got some real nice pictures of the Harriers and owls. The grey ghost is a challenge. From what I have observed, the male owls and harriers are normally further out in the field away from people while the females are smarter and stay closer to the people so the eagles will leave them alone. I really like the GBH on the post. Bummer about formatting the card. Glad you got some of the images back. I am so glad you had a good time while up here even though it was the coldest we have been in a very long time. If you have seen my IG lately you will have seen I have been posting a bunch of juvenile Bald Eagle pictures. What I haven't said win those posts is that is my mother in-laws farm. It is common to see 3 eagles there. I know I am l lucky to live in a place with so many bald eagles.

After shooting the Nikon D810 for almost a decade, I went mirrorless 5 months ago with the Z8. I got sick of waiting for a Z7 iii. I'm super happy with the Z8 and the few S-line lenses that I started with. I prefer the new Z-mount glass over adapting my old lenses, though it's hard on the wallet to replace many of my older Nikon D lenses, which won't autofocus on the Z cameras. G-mount glass works fine on the adapter, but the new lenses, to me, are just way better. I got the Nikkor 100-400 and 1.4 TC for landscapes cuz that's my main genre, but the Z8 did something unexpected for me-I started shooting birds for the first time ever! That has been a lot of fun.
@forced_perspective
@forced_perspective 27 күн бұрын
That's so cool. Yeah I'm with you on the cost of a new body and the z mount lenses especially the s line ones. I can only wish. I did see that canon honestly has the most affordable bang for your buck but then I basically gotta switch out all my glass. Thinking of taking a loss and liquidating it all. But we will see
@marcusgrandon3640
@marcusgrandon3640 26 күн бұрын
@@forced_perspective As for switching out your glass, you'll actually end up doing that anyway. The jump to mirrorless provides you with an opportunity to switch brands if you want. When I looked as what was on offer in November, I stuck with Nikon because as a landscape photographer, I wanted the 45 megapixels. I love the quality and ability to crop at will in post. I trust Nikon RAW files for the colors that I like to shoot.
@forced_perspective
@forced_perspective 26 күн бұрын
@marcusgrandon3640 that's actually a good point. Thanks for sharing that. Now I know why video was waiting on the Z6III, because of the full frame file sizes being smaller and the low light capability. Lots to consider 🤔

That viewfinder... honestly I think EVF is totally a different animal and I will always prefer an optical one. Just that the mirrorless focusing system is so good and the hit rate is so high. Bueatiful Bald Eagle pictures and footage. I love the cow pictures too. I haven't found them yet, but since you identified the bread I now have a better chance of finding them. Finding waterfowl was difficult during that cold spell. You pretty much had to find a lake or pond that had water running Into it and out. The area near those two spots were usually open, though not a big area. It appeared that the ice was thick enough that even the swans at 38 pounds were breaking it. In warmer weather but still icy I have scene swans act as ice breakers. All of the hills in front of Mt. Baker should have had snow too. Our mountains got so little snow this winter that they have already declared an emergency due to the water shortage we will have this summer. We depend on snow melt to fill our reservoirs so no snow means no water. Our only hope is for a cool wet summer.
