Much respect to Pete for going out of his way to say that Bench is the greatest Catcher of all time... How Bench never misses an opportunity to bury Pete, it would be very easy for Pete to return the favor....

Nolan Ryan, my slider never competed with your set of tools, but I disagree. The Hall Of Fame is for "fame", not gambling and infamous conduct. Johnny Bench had it right. That doesn't mean I don't think Pete didn't produce sufficient athletic ability. We need to be concerned about examples for our children, and the disqualifying Pete Rose from fame when he acted unworthily is a good lesson for everyone. Let's not be criminal or passively wicked, let's call it for what it is. An umpire has to call the balls and strikes and we people have to be able to call what is moral and what is not. Today, we live in a fallen government and gambling has been legalized almost everywhere -- what a disgrace! There is nothing productive about gambling, it takes from others when we should be learning how to give to others. As to baseball gambling, casino gambling, state lotteries, pool player gambling and all other types including those on the Internet, it would be appropriate for a nation to ban such evil vices. Gambling is related to covetousness, and the Bible says, “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.” (Ex. 20:17, KJV) A gambler tends to be attracted in a more than generous way to the money of his contemporary environment. If it leads to disobeying God, it is evil. We are living in the apostasy and must remember the Ten Commandments and develop a decent community for our youth to grow up in. You can't live in sin and not confess it without losing respect. Johnny Bench made a moral point that Pete Rose did not deserve honor. You can miss a fast ball and get away with it sometimes, but you can't miss out on Jesus Christ and receive what God wants for you. Pete Rose thinks people should get over it. Should we? Well, we can certainly forgive Pete and pray for him. It will be up to him to make a decision for Jesus Christ if he really wants to find out what's missing in his life.

1. Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers: 10 years, $700 million (2024-2033) Wow. When Ohtani reached free agency after the 2023 season, heading toward his second AL MVP Award in three years, it was a foregone conclusion that he would set a record for the largest contract in MLB history. Many estimates had him approaching or exceeding $500 million and perhaps even challenging $600 million. Even that turned out to be low. Ohtani's deal nearly doubles the previous record for total guaranteed dollars on a new contract, and perhaps that's appropriate given that his two-way status (although elbow surgery will keep him off the mound in 2024.)

Yes, he should be in the HOF. I've read the requirements for induction. So, if they're going to follow their own rules, then remove players like Cobb, Hornsby, and Ruth.

At about 5 minutes, Pete talks about contracts and says exactly that there will never be a shohei ohtani contract. Pete even said the exact number of a 700 million contract. Why isn't Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame? Why do we do this to people?

I was eight years old. My little league manager told my dad that he liked my hustle, a lot. "He hustles like that Red's rookie, Pete Rose." Yep. Pretty close to 60 years ago. MANY times in my life I was complimented on my drive, my energy, my work ethic, and well, my hustle. I like to think I have an extra TWO gears, in how I take care of my business.

No one loved watching Pete play ball more than me. I watched him since he replaced Don Blasingame at 2nd in '63 up til '85. Between the lines he was one of the best, plus I never saw him make a mental error. But off the field the man is a train wreck. Pete doesn't know to this day, if he told the truth up front he would be back in the game. He thinks the world is against him when, in fact, he can't get out of his own way.
