There is only one English dictionary...it is called The OED, it is the real English language. The Merriam Webster book has all the wrong spellings.
@LearnAcademicEnglishКүн бұрын
The OED is great for certain purposes since it has historical information about words, but Merriam, Longman, Cambridge, and others are great sources, too. Not sure what you mean by the "wrong spellings"...

I see... English is truly confusing sometimes but I now know why some pronounce bag as beg and bank as benk....with 'n' & 'm' the 'ae' sound is longer but for bag -- it's just the normal 'ae'...

It's not easy, but I always give my students this tip: What does the writer want you to know? Imagine that you have to explain the article to your grandmother. How can you explain it in an easy, simple way?

I would say "bored" instead of "exhausted" and "tired". I always thought that smile means bored.
@LearnAcademicEnglish5 күн бұрын
In English, bored is quite different from tired. It refers to the feeling when something is just not interesting. It's the opposite of interested.
@Leo0076195 күн бұрын
At the end... "You have to practice those *until you memorize* them". I wonder, can I say this instead with the same meaning, "You have to practice those until *you've memorized* them"?

lol, it's true! I tend to use more gestures than other people because of my work. A lot of my students have lower level listening skills in English, so I have to use a lot of gestures to help them understand me, and now it's just a bad habit. 😂

Share in the comments! Words in this video: deja vu rendezvous au pair faux pas boutique genre RSVP bureau guillotine chateau facade foyer hors d'oeuvres a la carte saute quiche parfait sommelier Note that we often don't use the correct accent marks that are used in French, and we may change the pronunciation. These are words that were borrowed from French and become part of the English language. 🤓 Want to join my live online classes? speakupclub.mn.co/share/oEqTAvvwpzfe2QxA?
