Thanks for the video. I just got one a month ago that got caught and donated to the pet store i work in. Im so confused. idk if i have a gopher snake or a bull snake. or are the the same specie? I don't even know if it's Pituophis catenifer or some other species. Interesting experience though. It escaped for the first time after i made a mistake but i found it. RIP the 3 rodents it attacked. Maybe the heat in the room made it extremely aggressive

Hello! Gopher snakes and bull snakes are the common name given to the same species so yes they can be used interchangeably for the most part. I’ve found that people more in the Midwest tend to call them bull-snakes more often. There are, however, many different subspecies depending on the location which are more often given the common name bullsnake such as Pituophis catenifer sayi. That is an interesting story thanks for sharing! Thank you for watching!

I'm so glad I found you, and your little side blotched guys here! I just found a baby side blotched lizard in my house. He was too tiny and weak to release outside, so we've named him Greg and he's got a little terrarium now. Thank you for showing me you feed yours these flightless fruit flies too. It's the only thing I could find small enough for him. He's only half an inch but including his tail. I hope he stays strong and grows big like yours🙏 I'm following you now and will keep watching your advice, thank you young man🙏

One more question how can i tell if they are in fact alligator lizards?
@Joels_AnimalsАй бұрын
It can be difficult since many lizard eggs look the same. I would try to do some research on the native lizard species in your area to see what is most likely and prominent in your backyard. I like to use the app inaturalist. If you’ve noticed there are many alligator lizards in your yard, it most likely was from one of them.
@jennyjordan146Ай бұрын
I found 10 alligator lizard eggs in what I thought Was a ground squirrel hole. I flooded it and the eggs popped up. I collected them and put them in a tank with a red lamp. Temp has been kept at 80° and I keep it moist with daily spraying. I don't really know what I'm doing. How do I know if they are even alive? What if I put them upside down? Do you have any advice for me? Your video was very helpful. I do plan on releasing them back where I found them. If they live...
@Joels_AnimalsАй бұрын
Hello! It sounds like you’re on the right track! At this point you cannot really tell if they’re alive unless they’re at a late stage in development which really depends on when they were laid. Candling them with a light may make things more visible. I recommend leaving them in the position you found them, if you don’t know how they were positioned I would just leave them on their side and not upside down. One very important aspect is making sure where they are placed does not attract too much bacterial and mold growth. New Zealand sphagnum moss is usually good with this or other medias like perlite. I would just try not to keep it too damp. Thank you for watching!

Great video very informative. Just wondering if they get along with each other if you have more than one in the tank.
@Joels_AnimalsАй бұрын
Hi! You can have multiple in the same tank and they will not harm each other, however, if you do not have a lot of algae and they finish eating all of it, they will likely start competing for a food source unless more is supplemented. Thanks for watching!

When l was a young child l came across one of these in my backyard. It was around 1962. I lived in Chino California. Chino is around 20 miles south of Los Angeles near the cities of Ontario and Pomona. It had to be one of the very last surviving members of that lizard in that area because that area is now covered by nothing but houses. Miles and miles of nothing but hundreds even thousands of houses and streets. It makes me kinda sad that I saw one of the last surviving members of that species in the entire Chino valley.
@Joels_AnimalsАй бұрын
Wow yea these guys are very sensitive to urban development especially homes and agricultural land use. A lot of it goes down due to their very specific diet of harvester ants which really don’t do well in urban environments and get outcompeted by the invasive argentine ants. That’s an amazing story I would love to see these guys in my backyard. Thank you so much for sharing!

The first words you said was news to me lol. I slam dunk all my inverts in because they seem to not need any acclimation. Cleaners shrimps stary cleaning, urchins eat, hermits goof off. Its all good haha
@Joels_AnimalsАй бұрын
Oh that’s interesting I agree many clean up crew members tend to be very hardy especially hermits lol. I usually drip acclimate just as a precaution as I have had some inverts go into shock from drastic changes in salinity. Thank you for watching!

I got myself a blueberry sea fan that has finally humbled me and its not doing so well in my display pico. I have been feeding daily for it but it seems to be melting away, or having algae fmgrow on it somewhat now after a few weeks. I got brightwell reef snow, live phyto, and reef roids as my food options. Live brine/copepods as well but idk if they go for that. Any tips appreciated
@Joels_Animals2 ай бұрын
Hey! Could the nitrates and phosphates be the cause of the algae? I’d try to carefully remove any algae from the surface of the gorgonian. Is it placed in a higher light area? I’d say for feeding, live phyto and live copepods are great. Adult brine shrimp might be too large for the polyps to consume but the larvae are perfect. I personally haven’t used reef roids but it may add some extra nutritional value to the live foods. Also what is the flow like? These could be factors that effect survivability.

Do you have to brumate them in order to breed them
@Joels_Animals3 ай бұрын
I personally don’t alter the temperature of their enclosure, but during the winter the room temperature naturally does drop slightly and then later begins to warm up more in the spring. If you live in an area where these guys are not native, you may have to manually brumate them.

Thank you I appreciate that! The video I showed was actually from a stomatella snail! But I have gotten quite a few inverts to spawn. The key is mimicking their natural environments and they pretty much just do their own thing 😁 once again thank you!

In my experience, peppermint shrimp only eat the smaller aiptasia. Sometimes you're lucky, I've seen time lapse video of them eating large aiptasia on youtube, just not IRL. There is a solution though, 15 minutes with f-aiptasia will kill 90% of your big aiptasia and the peppermints can clean up the rest. BTW, aiptasia-x is junk. The products are not the same.
