I came across this vid at the perfect time because I'm a carat. It was only yesterday when Mingyu covered sticky by kiss of life without making it "masculine" in any way. It was fun asf to see a 6'1 gym bro male idol doing a very feminine choreography so you'll imagine my surprise and disappointment when I saw a lot of kpop stans saying it was weird/cringe and that male idols "shouldn't touch" girl group choreos. It's ironic because svt is well known in the fandom for several years to cover girl groups and do them justice without making any of it masculine.

This isnt even just a factor in kpop, even in regular pop male artist arent doing as hot as they once where. Tell me the last international hit from a new and upcoming male pop star that you can name of the top of your head, theres literally none because i think male artist even in kpop and normal pop are very stagnant at the moment in what they can do and when they try something new it doesn't go down well with there fans or the genral public. In regards to kpop, it was one of the most male dominanted industrys for a long time, there was at one point where it felt like there was a new boy group every week and i guess it got to over whelming for the general public in korea to keep up so they let them go and focused all there attention on girl groups which has never been a bad thing because girl groups have always taken a back seat in regards to the public and international attention that groups received. The negative about this happening though is that now boy groups arent willing to try out new things in there music which is sad because boy groups of the past where really willing to switch concepts to fit there comeback. Also the music for boy groups all started to sound the same at one point during the transition from 3rd gen to 4th gen kpop, like i swear i was getting songs mistaken from one group to another at one point and being really confused when i found out that it was another boy group singing the song i was listening to and it happened more then once. Althought there are the outliers like TXT and Stray kidz alot and i mean alot of boy group music all started just blending togther.

In my observation, the lack of relevance of male artists/boy groups these days go far beyond kpop. Even in the western pop culture scene, pop girls take up a vast space compared to their male counterparts. Pop boys like Post Malone and The Weekend had BIG HITS but you rarely see people online talking about them and their songs. On the other hand, with pop girls, people were OBSESSED with Sabrina's, Billie's, Chappell Roan's, and Tinashe's releases. The GP just eats up pop girls content like a full-course meal whereas they consume pop boys content as snacks. I think the reason for this shift is because: 1. The pop girls get the women, LGBTQ+, and men fan demographic. I noticed that women and LGBTQ+ fans do most of the promotions while men do most of the casual listening and streaming. With pop boys, they get most of the women and a fair or relatively small chunk from other demographic, which is a struggle since you only had to rely from one demographic to promote you in the hardcore sense. 2. Or maybe it's just the pop girls' time to shine. And who knows? Soon the pop boys might take over again and vice versa

This reminds me of an experiment I learned about in some of my classes. When men walked on a suspended bridge as opposed to a more secure bridge, they were more attracted to a woman who met them on the bridge: because they misattributed the arousal from adrenaline, mistakenly thinking they felt how they did because she was attractive. The brain is very complex, to the point it doesn't always understand its own function. Chemically, we're often behind the curve.

There's a group that culturally impacted the 5th gen bgs that the public seem to like nowadays, but people arent ready for that discussion since there is already a prevalent prejudice against them 🤷

Hi choujimi, i saw this video minutes ago and i would really like to see your take and opinion of it, since you are so educated on Twice's musicality and concept brand, you know this group so well and this video seemed so misleading to me, as i wholeheartly disagree with it, i still respect the owner's opinions but i do think they're leading some unnecessary commentary that may fool the viewers to believe that it is true. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jZiam7pl1bGRhoE.htmlsi=3kzGa3JsT6T5E7VG

Talking about mainstream success when you don't know what mainstream success is so funny. Collaborating with Marvel for a song that will be featured in their upcoming biggest release is mainstream success. Debuting, in billboard 200 Is mainstream success debuting on billboard hot 100 and streaming and sells The most mainstream success. Please learn the definition of mainstream success and make a video then . Stray kids you are the most famous Don't worry.❤

I don't know but these kinds of videos are such brain rots like you are talking about mainstream success. What is mainstream success? Mainstream success is amount of album sales, streams, charting in billboard 200 billboard hot 100, spotify and other important charts. Its followers they have in their socials and other brand interactions. Straykids tops all of the above no question asked. What is more mainstream than collabing with marvel for deadpool x wolverine ? Lol petty haters from small nugu groups please keep crying. Stray kids will always be bigger than u all. Mainstream success is not debuting on the fruit app.😂😂 Please stop ur brain rot by getting out in the real world where skz is everywhere.

I have not, at my own initiative, found myself searching for a 4th or 5th gen bg song yet, nor do I care about them. And it has nothing to do with the concepts. Maybe its my age, maybe my culture, maybe it really is smth that bothers others too and thats why bgs lose audience but - No male idol stands out to me. They have the same built, the same cliche personalities, the same sound, what 1 does is done by at least 5 others at the same time. The market is oversaturated and, as is the issue with ggs too, too many groups with too many members that are just copy and past of others. I can no longer stand the makeup that they get (its not that i have an issue that they wear makeup, I dont like how they do it), the gestures (oh my God, like please stop with the cringe fanservice - im just 23 but its been years since i cant stand it anymore), the facial expressions are too much for me and please, the styling is atrocious (someone just wash and cut their hair cause so many look like they use a whole bottle of hair spray or that its just straight up fried). They do too much! All the time! What I miss in kpop is male idols like Tayeang or T.O.P. Or just chill concepts where a bunch of guys had fun making music (iKONs "My Type" for example) without giving their last breath dancing for the fangirls. Whatever came after around 2019 for boygroups killed it for me.

I think after k-pop gained a lot of western infkuence in 3rd gen, k-pop was "masculinized". We almost never see cutesy concepts anymore either from bgs or ggs (think kissing you by girl's generation or boyfriend by boyfriend. These songs would never fly today). I think that's the big factor here. That and feminism

With Soyeon the pressure is even more intense since wordplay is an integral component of rapping. Soyeon is a rap queen, but the fact that there’s this common idea that when Soyeon raps in Korean only she isn’t actually rapping is so racist and xenophobic on so many levels. Also, I lovelovelove me a KPOP flex song, but I would like to point out that even these so-called “direct” lyrics are always really vague whether in English or Korean. The only group that I would say that breaks the mold is XG, specifically pointing out GIRLS are amazing, we AS WOMEN (Asian women specifically in “Woke Up”) can do anything despite cultural patriarchal norms or your tiredass idol stereotypes, etc, and even then they kind of HAVE to since a lot of their songs fall under the R&B and rap categories. I wish we can have a song like the legendary Chanmina’s “BIJIN” tbh…

I think people's relationship to substances also reflects the hype being greater than the actual relationship though, so I wouldn't say these interpretations are exclusionary. Rather, they emphasize each other. The boy is like a drug (lines like "they say I'm sensitive lately/Every day without you, baby" and "And we can go hi-i-i-i-i-igh" reinforce the drug imagery) and that makes leaves him unable to live up to the hype.

i always thought a "chemical hype boy" was exactly what you said, a dopamine filled delusional expectation of a person. but to expand on that, i also think about the phenomenon where when you fall in love, the part of your brain behind logic and reasoning essentially shuts down, leaving you to the woes of your dopamine and the "chemicals". that's just where my mind went, though. i enjoyed this bite sized video! hope you do more ♡
