John Mastoroudes was such a big name in Nigerian football in the early 80s. Abiola Babes and Leventis held the local League on a chokehold for some years before they were disbanded. Their exit paved way for the reemergence of Iwuayanwu Nationale has the national leader and later the rise of BBC Lions in the late 90s. On Friday Ekpo, he was one of the most brilliant midfielders of the 80s. If he is around today, I can almost bet he will be a defensive midfielder/playmaker in the mould of someone like Rodri

What a big shame on all department of sport in Nigeria to destroyed our own Wembley stadium of nigeria. National stadium supposed to be the number one stadium in Nigeria. But unfortunately the sport department never understood the meaning of history and historical venue.

Leventis was the first team I know that went unbeaten in an entire season from Division 3, and Division 2. Won both divisions, then went to the first division and conquered it with other teams like Rangers, IICC Shooting Stars, Stationery Stores, Abiola Babes, etc all in contention. One of the best teams ever to come out of Nigeria.

Even if Andre Ayew retires from football today he has achieved a lot and is family including his father is proud of him. Andre Ayew has lost 2 Afcon finals in 2010 and 2015 not 1. BBC African player of the year in 2011 and nominated for top 3 African best player in 2011 and 2015. Jordan's children will take over in 10 years to come so the Ayews name will forever remain in football

Haha! It's only today that I'm knowing that Nigeria is always a favorite to win Afcon; Ghana has reached more finals in the Afcon finals that Nigeria and Silver medals more than any country on the continent, followed by Nigeria with the highest number of bronze medals. Ghana: 4 gold and 5 silver; Nigeria 3 gold and 4 silver.

Why are Nigerians so much concerned about Ghana. We beat Egypt 6-1 to advance to the world cup 2014 and beat Nigeria to make it to Qatar. Who else is Ghana afraid of? I'm praying we meet Nigeria along the way and pack them packing. We did it in 2008 and 2010 afcon in Ghana and Angola. Nigeria is no match for Ghana at all.

@jamesagberebi25919 ай бұрын
Nigeria defeated Ghana at AFCON 1984, 2002, 2006. Nigeria qualified for the 2002 World Cup after thrashing Ghana 3-0 in the final qualifier. After Ghana beat Nigeria at the 1992 AFCON, they had to wait until 2007 before they defeated Nigeria again. So stop sounding like Nigeria have never had the upper hand over Ghana. Also a gentle reminder, Black Stars last won the AFCON in 1982.

@@jamesagberebi2591 i never knew you wanted us to go back into history. If that's what you want then get ready. Yes, you beat accra hearts of oak who represented Ghana at the 2006 world cup qualifier. Ask oppon weah why Liberia protested against that 'fixed match for oil'? Secondly since 2006 till date a period of 17 years has Nigeria ever beaten Ghana? For your free tuition; we beat you guys 4-1 in London. Ask Micheal Obi who captained your team. Since your last win in Egypt a goal scored by Taye Tawo have you guys ever beaten the almighty Ghana? Even Egypt with Mo Salah could not stand the might of asamoah gyan (6-1) how much more Nigeria? We eliminated you from afcon 2008, 2010, CHAN and world cup Qatar. For 17 good years now you guys are playing second fiddle to the black stars. Come again. Where is your Amokachi who was running his mouth that Nigeria will beat Ghana wotowoto? Please, pray you are never paired against Ghana in any tournament again.

I can say authoritatively say that Ghana is never afraid of Nigeria when it comes to soccer. It was the prayers of all Ghanaians that Ghana should meet Nigeria. Whatever it is they will meet along the line that is if Nigeria can progress. Since 2006, Nigeria has never beaten Ghana. Out of 7 matches played Ghana has won 5 and drawn 2. Nigeria is never a threat to Ghana.

To me the potting is very good for Nigeria. It has spared them the problem of meeting their nemesis Ghana. Nigeria should rather thank God that they will not be meeting Ghana in the group stage. What they will have to do is to try and win which group they find themselves this is bcos Ghana will naturally top their group.

As a Ghanaian, I feel Victor Osimhen deserve the African footballer of the year award. The voting system needs to change. Only players from the French speaking countries wins the award. It is absolutely farcical !!! The current voting system denied Okocha, Smuel Kufour, Essien, Asamoah Gyan, and Andre Ayew in the past...

Black Stars is still a team in Transition,we still need time to become a formidable side,we are not contenders for this Afcon title,its a bit too early,realistically we expect an improvement on our last AFCON outing which will allow us to become a cohesive unit.its a very talented team with soo many options in every part of the field and which is capable of going toe to toe with the best on the continent in the future, most likely the next AFCON after ivory coast.with that said the Black Stars always surprise when expectations are low so ......

With due respect that coach, Claude Leroy shouldn't be making such careless remarks towards certain countries. This can sour his relationship with some countries and that isn't good for his coaching career. He has to be professional enough in his pronouncements. That Accra sports stadium is not as bad as people see it. The stadium was in good shape to host Medeama (3)vs Horoya(1) in the CAF champion league game on Sunday. The problem with is the drainage system which easily gets soaked after heavy rains which was the case for the Ghana vs Liberia friendly which people saw and hastily made it sound as if it is one of the worst in Africa. Ghana has very good pitches just that the bad ones are the ones chosen by the clubs to play on, for reasons best known to them. It's not only Ghana that has some bad pitches it's all over Africa, just that issues relating to Ghana are blown out of proportion by people who try to hate on that country. Thanks

Yassine Bounou also got nominated. He’s likely to be crowned CAF player of the year considering his exploits in the Europa campaign and his contribution to the Moroccan team in the year under review. Osimhen has a strong case too.
