I'm sorry but no. After the last almost decade of horseshit they called triple A games I'm gonna expect something better than crap from the early to mid 2000s and they haven't been delivering even THAT. I don't need to see my horse's testicles shrink up in winter areas, I don't need to see every ash on Kratos's bloodied knuckles, or every flare of sunlight on my race car, I just want something FUN. Where's a new Guitar Hero? Tony Hawk American Wasteland? High Stakes? Brutal Legend? Where's the new Reach? The new Black Ops 2 with fully personalized emblems? The absolute lack of personalization in gaming has been staggering the last 6-10 years. I had better customization in early 2000s Tony Hawk games than GTA5. Tattoos? In Tony Hawk you could piece them together, resize them, turn them, and even if it said "arm tattoo" it didn't matter because you could drag it anywhere on your body. GTA? Completely assembled tatts, no customization, no dragging, one set size, one set color choice. Awful. Halo Reach vs Infinite. In Reach you can assemble your own player emblem and pick each individual color, AND you could alter your armor colors to match if you wanted. Infinite, pre-made color swatches (half of which look like some clashing quirky slime making zoomer bullshit), pre-made emblems, only a handful of color swatches for emblems. Awful. These companies have lost all soul and creativity and taken all agency from their players. I HOPE they all fail trying to chase the hype of this game so that maybe we can start getting good games again. and don't even get me started on VR. Such an absolute WASTE of potential. It has a built in mic, motion tracking VR gloves are a thing, all anime fights consist of the character yelling their attack names and doing something with their hands. We SHOULD have literally the absolute best Star Wars, DBZ, Naruto, Harry Potter, One Piece, etc. games of ALL TIME and they'd rake in so much fuckin money in no time that they'd never have to worry about going under.

This was one of the first games ive ever beaten, it has a very special place in my heart.

The thing nobody acknowledged in this discussion is that Larian got away with things that other developers have been (and were) crucified for. BioWare and Obsidian would not get away with three years of full price early access. Or spending development time on features that ended up being scrapped (voiced Tav), or straight up changing entire characters and story direction for the sake of people who hate making decisions (Minthara), or taking characters from the actual franchise (Jaheira, Minsc, Viconia, Sarevok) and completely changing their personalities on a whim. People took BG3's 'disappointing' final Act as just "Well that's Larian for you" while an entire proto-gamergate was kicked up over a disappointing final 10 minutes of Mass Effect. The Early Access thing is what I get stuck on. If Dragon Age or Pillars of Eternity releaesd on Early Access for full price, people would have rightfully went "Are you fucking kidding me?" If they did that TODAY they'd still get that, because the public is fickle as shit. There's also the human cost. Larian got to spend as much time as they wanted trying to get a BioWare RPG to work in their frankenstein's monster of an engine, and didn't even have to worry about the budget during development, and they STILL burned out. And this is going to set a standard? For what? Big games with plenty of choices have come out with even better writing and characterization and that never set a new standard. The entire Mass Effect trilogy was made during the same time frame as Baldur's Gate 3 and that's one of the best video games ever made. That didn't set a new standard. Hell neither did the original Baldur's Gate trilogy, which is better than both of those combined. This has happened multiple times before, and nothing ever changed because the problem with the industry isn't that nobody has proven good games sell, it's that the executives want easy and simple infinite money generators.

I’m a desk worker and my coworker (my boss more realistically). She’s pulling a 50 hour week every week… she starts one hour before she lists her work time, this is her choice and she just likes to come in and make a coffee and just get comfortable in her chair. I took over for her while she took a month of off time. I lived in a month of fear that I was fucking everything up and pushing 11 hours frequently even tho my practical work ended 4 hours into a shift the idea of fear coercion is real. I was lucky I work somewhere that rewards working above expectations, I was told after my time to take a few less days a week and relax after my first time working all of it myself.
