what about the panatta leg press 45 degree or the vertical version, and overall do you like the double pivot more or the normal sled version? please help recommend me a version to buy, thanks

what do you think of the arsenal strength 35 degree leg press, and also a second machine made by 'Tom Eilerman' which is a nebula leg press but the sled is adjustable, if you are not familiar with it here is a video of it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNx4q7SUudrcYqM.html

Can I ask you if you've figured out what the purpose of the Roc-It design philosophy was? It might have something to do with arresting Reactionary Force, but I'm not sure. I tried to get a straight answer from Hoist, but no one I spoke to seemed to have a clue.

lol… spoke to them once at IHRSA, completely nonsensical explanations about matching natural motions of the body, when questioned further they said something along the lines of real lifters don’t overthink it. It’s mostly gimmick and based on feel. Sometimes the machine motion positions the persons body weight to add to the resistance and sometimes it’s the opposite… just have to go piece by piece and decide if it adds any value or if you like the way it feels. I will say however, that it wasn’t uncommon for an equipment company rep or even an engineer to not really know the answer to detailed questions about machines kinematics or kinetics. I once had a major company engineer come out to the gym I was at (because I knew the sales rep) to see if I could help him figure out why customers didn’t like the feel of the seated bicep curl machine, the one where it’s basically a seated db curl with pads behind the upper arm. I told him it was because you couldn’t line up your elbow with the machine axis and the resulted in the trailing arm feeling like it was jamming you into the pad at full elbow flexion. He looked and measured and said, nah it’s in the right spot. Then I pointed out that would be true until you sit in the machine and try it and realize the mass of your tricep pushes your arm 2 inches in front of the axis and they should set the pad back. I even took the pads off to let him try it and he said, yup, that feels a lot better. Point being, you can be great at engineering it but if you don’t put a body on it, and you don’t actually use these tools, you just don’t know.

@@diapherodestruncata8131 I've had similar experiences over the years and it's challenge to remain respectful it those situations. As for the Roc-It stuff, yeah it's kind of a mess, but it was clearly designed with some intent, but I don't know what that is. They also tend to be narrow and a bit lightweight. Some company would be well served if they simply dug up some old Nautilus & Medx designs, which are off patent, and just build those. Imagine Strength has done that with updated Medx designs (by Clay Steffee who helped design the originals and has had his hands on a number of designs); and while they look good and perform better than some of the originals, they are being built in Red China, and that's no bueno ✌️

Couldn’t agree more that the pendulum squat pro is a truly amazingly well built leg press that is terrible. I used it at a gym a couple of months ago thinking that it may be a piece that I was going to add to my home gym and I just couldn’t make it work right for me. Looking at the machine you can tell that it’s world class in terms of design and build quality but man it was such a weird position. That foot plate mod would be great to try. Pendulum needs to come in for a test of it, cause their squat pro is way off in terms of its current foot plate location

Relatively speaking, I understand how loading the new pin closer to the pivot/axis is respectively less starting torque than loading the original, but as far as any of those loading spots getting lighter from their starting torque to the ending the squat, I don’t see it. They all increase in moment arm. It works for strive in part because the arc is much smaller, this arc is too big to get past the longest point, at least as far as I can see. Maybe you meant something different ?
@dominationnation11
@dominationnation11 20 күн бұрын
Appreciate the input, I know exactly what you are saying. After tweaking it for the second time I realized exactly where the weight horns would need to be to be perfectly strive-esque but I haven't felt the need to do so as I like how it is now and is functionally the same (able to make the weight heavier or lighter depending on what horn I use.) I may do this, however, on the other swing squat I have coming

I first used Nautilus equipment in 1972, ...and was amazed at the super sophisticated biomechanical designs of the machines and how they felt compared to ANY other weight training equipment......... Back then the only other equipment was universal, marcy, paramount, polaris,...... and they were crude compared to Nautilus. I've been lucky enough to try every nautilus pullover , including the ultra rare duo-poly pullover (I didn't like it)...I don't like ANY of the duo-poly machines-unless you alter the way you use the machines. Anyway of all the pullovers that nautilus ever made , My opinion is that the Power Plus pullover , is the best one they ever made, Because 1-its plate loaded/lever action, 2-it uses ball bearings instead of oilite bronze bushings ( 1st Gen machines) 3- It uses Kevlar belts-smother & less friction than chains or cables 4 -it has adjustable seat, (1st gen didn't) . and 5- it has the newer improved cam/strength profile,.....Arthur Jones over cammed the 1st Gen Machines in the fully contracted position-because he believed that people would adapt to the resistance increase ,....after several years he abandoned the idea and, reduced the cam profile at the last 20% of the cam.........Hey Nathan I look forward to your review and opinion of all your pullover machines.........I forgot to mention I used the very first (time machines) pullover they had 25 lb plate weight stacks, swivel handles on the pullover bar, and you had the option to buy the pullover alone or the pullover torso arm combo unit, ...They had alot of friction. when the first gen plateloaded pullover came out it was vastly superior to the earlier ones.

Nathan, these videos are awesome for gym junkies. Would love to see the mods you made to the pendulum squat. Also, I totally get the desire to play around with these machines to make them exceptional, but wouldn't a simple hack squat achieve what you're looking for (a more quad dominant movement)?
@dominationnation11
@dominationnation11 20 күн бұрын
Linear hack squat is great way to stimulate quads. have several of them but the arc of the swing makes it so there is essentially no axial loading of the spine like there is on linear hack.
