"it made sense for us to buy landscaping equipment" As soon as I saw the ELECTRIC equipment I got red in the face into a fit of rage. As an experienced landscaper who has had the misfortune of using one of these, THEY'RE AWEFUL AND SHOULD BE ILLEGAL.

I have several HYSA and MMAs. I am thinking about moving most of the funds to a 60 month CD to avoid losing the high yield interest payments deposited to the accounts which I think will go down in the coming months. Though I will not be able to get the funds as easily in the case of an emergency, I will be happy to keep my yield rates about the same for a longer period of time. Are you considering the same precautions?
@TheUnsavvyBudgeter
@TheUnsavvyBudgeter 5 ай бұрын
I have as well! I am not sure how long these high interest rates will last and we’ve seen that these good rates don’t last forever. The locked in part scares us a bit so we may consider not doing the full amount so we have a more accessible emergency fund when smaller emergencies come up. May I ask why you chose to do multiple HYSA and MMAs? Curious about the benefits you see with going that route.

Initially, opened the High Yield Savings and Money Market accounts with multiple banks in anticipation of a large legal settlement. I have both business and personal banking accounts- so one of the savings accounts is associated with my business. The banks, American Express, CIT, Synchrony, Wells Fargo, Bank of America are pretty stable so I transfer funds monthly to the individual savings accounts to keep them active. Right now about $700 a month. I set it up- so it is easy to transfer funds between all of my accounts, so when one bank is offering a great rate on a CD I can easily fund it- even with my multiple banking habits. The short answer, thought I needed the accounts for the settlement. @@TheUnsavvyBudgeter

Aww thank you for the love and support! The positivity from the community always helps keep me going. I think 12 months is such a smart idea. I think that will be our next goal after we reach 6 months. I always read and heard 6 months is what you need, but I don't think that holds true anymore with inflation and the challenges of finding work.

There wasn’t much logical reason to it. It was overindulging and not being prepared for large home repair expenses. But it’s another valuable lesson learned and if it wasn’t for this layoff we would’ve kept delaying funding our emergency fund.
