When First I Came to Caledonia When I first went to Caledonia I got started in number three. And I got lodgings with Donald Norman, He had a daughter who made good tea. And there was me and my brother Charlie, Two bigger shavers you never did see, Were spiking eels in the month of April And starving slaves out on Scatarie. I went down to Donald Norman's To buy some boots and a pound of tea. But Donald said that he could not give them Till fish got plenty in Scatarie. So I went down to their big harbour, All on purpose for to see the spray. I spied a maiden from Boularderie over, One look from her took my breath away. If I had pen from Pennsylvania, If I had paper of the purest white, If I had ink of the rosy morning, A true love note onto you I'd write. To wish I was on the deepest ocean As far from land as I ever could be, Sailing over the deepest water Where a woman's love would not bother me. I'd lay my head to a cask of brandy It's a dandy I do declare, For when I'm drinking I'm seldom thinking On how I lost that young female fair. When I first went to Caledonia I got started in number three. And I got lodgings with Donald Norman, He had a daughter who made good tea.

I agree with all you've said. Great yoke. I haven't had dropouts because all my sound comes from my pedalboard onstage with me. Great to hear that it can work from the main desk via an xlr cable. The buttons have turned themselves on a few occasions for me and drained the battery so I agree they should be more difficult to access. Also I have the KZs. Look forward to the next video. GRMA.

Ya the XLR cable helped me out massively, haven't had any drop-out issues since starting to use it that way. And the KZs sound great for the price 👌 Cheers Enda!

Something snapped inside my brain today while finally giving DADGAD a proper try. I realized how much versatility there is with DADGAD to play all over the place without having to really memorize a thousand different voicings etc in standard tuning. Standard : operating a guitar DADGAD : “playing” music with a guitar ❤ Thank you for making this make sense!

Amazing boxplaying, can you please tell me about how the box in tuned, the song is in G. I try a B/C and a D/G box but it seems not work good, to much push pull. Then I try a G/C box and it work better, but i'am not sure. What is it?

Interesting that the triplet strumming patterns for Irish folk music is the same as the triplet strumming pattern for romani folk music. Does this style also use only downstrokes for string changes when playing single note melodies?

Hi I'm wondering what the best way to hold the guitar is? I see you holding it between your legs and the top of it tilted up rather than the normal horizontal grip. Does it help with the rythm better? I am struggling with keeping the jig rhythm for sustained amounts of time

Hi Aodan, could you please elaborate on your strumming pattern. The rhythm shown in the start of the video (both the reel bass-treble pattern and the boom chuck) don't match with what you are playing in the session. Do you use the same bass-treble rhythm for all chords or do you boom-chuck the D & G and the F# & G?

Wery nice explanation, i love playing in Dadgad, thanx for the inspiration, i will try this out... I just Wonder though, i know the song with different lyrics? "On the day that I was married, and laid in my married bed, up comes a bold see captain and stand at my bed head, saying arise arise young wedded man, and come a long with me, to the lowland of Holland, to fight the enemy"... Why does it have different words?

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! The lyrics you mentioned are from a different version of the song, which is common in folk music. Variations in lyrics can often be found.

Great lesson. Love this tune, fun to work out accompaniment, esp. the B part. Thanks for your clear instruction, clean playing; and for showing us some options while giving encouragement to "play around with it." It's also fun to descend with chords on the low-sounding strings from the Em (Bm shape).

Great lesson. So nice to add these 7th chords and will be pleased to learn how to use them in Irish accompaniment. For an exercise playing with a jazzy sound, it's fun to go from (for instance) GM7 to Am7 to Bm7 to CM7 and back down with a bossa nova rhythm. For what it's worth, I find I like fingering the M7 chords with four fingers, and using the barre on strings 1-4 for the m7 chords.
