I hope so. Depending on what's been reset, it can throw level design out the window. E.g If they've gone third person to a birds eye camera like League then anything Zaun related is now out the window

Internally they will have had a release window which would have been pushed back (delayed) but I get your point. I work in game dev and we'll refer to it as "delaying" even though a date hasn't been announced publically. I admit from an outsiders point of view, delayed might not be the best wording here. my bad

Do you have a source for that? I've played them all and don't recall any major delays before release. They said the last three games would release in 2023 and they did.

@@ShambitsGaming The Ruined King came out waaay after the Ruination event ended and Song of Nunu was delayed multiple times to a total of 2 years I think. You at least have to know about those, they are the most obvious examples. But all of them were delayed at least once the sylas game the ekko game even Hextech Mayhem was delayed. You can google the tittles + "delayed" and you'll find articles about every single one.

I don't agree. Most of the Runeterra lore and worldbuilding can be traced back to the work of Maisie Yang and Graham Mcneill. They've been let go as part of this company change in strategy. This is not the same thing as letting go of a few writers who wern't hitting standards. This is an enterprise level change in direction to focus on what they view as important (it says as much in the announcement...), and in that process, they cut 15 worldbuilding staff that we know about and I've seen several more since I scripted this video. I agree (and called it over a year ago when it wasn't a popular opinion) that they are moving to one canon and that Arcane would overwrite existing lore. What would be REALLY helpful with that is if you had some super senior people that have been involved in the creation of the lore across multiple products for a decade or more.... But they fired them.

It's more they've; 1. cut the only two products that deliver lore right now 2. Let go of at least 15 people who work on the lore that we know about. 3. released one short story last year 4. released one comic last year (that the guy behind it said was really hard to get approval to do) 5. Literally said they need to get back to focus on what's important and in the next paragraph, announced the sunsetting of the lore based studio and the huge scaling back of LoR, the single product that's generated the most lore for the IP ever. I don't consider path of champions to be a story-based mode. It's a rogue-like with some cool interactions between champions (Like Jinx storming the capital of Demacia?) new card artwork and their flavor text are what fuel the lore and they've cut those teams.

sun-setting two games that don't make money is totally fine and I expect it. Riot Forge adn LoR are just channels for narrative to flow in the end. It's certainly sad we won't get story through those channels anymore but what's gotten me concerned is what I talk about from 2:22 onwards. Those people who work on narrative and worldbuilding have been let go. Not moved around, re-allocated to other products or to the universe website for writing.. They were let go as part of an enterprise shift that highlighted "getting back to what's important". It implies that those roles aren't important.

Hard agree that they will re-use the information. Mageseeker in particular gives Demacia a nice sort of.. "reset point" for an mmo to build on. (mageseekers dealt with, Lux training mages in Demacia etc.) I think I've maybe I've not done a good job of communicating this in the video... (based on the comments I think I could have done better here). It's not really LoR or Riot Forge that i'm most upset to see go (they were just channels for narrative to flow). It's the letting go of 15+ staff who worked on that narrative no longer working at Riot because they want to get "back to what's important" and apparently that means firing large portions of your worldbuilding team.

It's a bit of work but looking through the portfolios of the concepts artists is a really great time if you're into art. I'd kill to be a producer on Riots Art team 😅

It's either a cool new champ (with new lore) or a story that wets that appetite to get back in and play a few games for me. I suspect there's quite a few players like us :[

Hey. Yep! And I've been saying that Arcane would overwrite existing lore since the show finished airing (even though people said I was stupid for thinking that). What we got from Arcane likely changes some of Noxus' pre-established lore but it's not clear how just yet. Season 2 should shed more light :D
