Haha I agree with a previous comment I to thought it was a model initially

While it looks like a tank it is a M88A3 Hercules Heavy Recovery Vehicle. A tank tow truck.

Are Csx intermodal common at Howell
@HotspotsSoutheast11 күн бұрын
It’s random. Half of CSX trains go through Howell and the other take the tunnel under Inman. There was track work going on that day so they might have changed route.

Flowery Branch is a nice area. Not too busy. Halfway between Buford and Gainesville. A few good restaurants nearby. Some shopping. The trains do blow through there. A decent safe place to watch trains.

Since ATCS is being phased out it makes train watching a lot more difficult. I used to be able to monitor ATCS from home and know that trains were leaving Atlanta or Greenville and be able to get over to some spot on the Greenville line in time to shoot them. I would head over to Buford or Gainesville or even up towards Lula, Alto or Toccoa if the train was worth chasing that far. But now I have no idea if there are any trains in the area so not much point driving all the way over there. Also I have health issues now so I don't like traveling too far from home. Which is why I have been going mostly to Howell wye and Inman yard. A lot of trains go by there in an hour so I can get a lot of video in a short time before heading back home.

Still haven’t got the chance to fly my Mini 3 around this area. I should probably get some extra batteries
@HotspotsSoutheastАй бұрын
Having multiple batteries is a necessity. They make charging trays that hold three batteries I always have two trays so six batteries. Plus I have a car charger to recharge them as I drain them. I will usually go through all six batteries at least once in a four hour session. Plus you can recharge the controller with an external battery which is nice. So while I’m flying I have the controller plugged into a battery just to get more time out of it.

I’ve seen one sitting there a couple times. They usually service that business at night. I’ve watched them on the webcam there. Sometimes I guess they end the day there and leave the power for the next day.

Was it because you were close to PDK?
@HotspotsSoutheast2 ай бұрын
I was in Atlanta which isn’t near the airport. I did then go up to Doraville and flew after getting the required permission to fly there. My drone will not allow it to take off or fly into no fly zones. You must get authorization first. At Doraville I can fly as far south as the old Ford plant but not any further south. The drone won’t let you move any further. It also won’t let you fly over a prison or jail. Laws are great things. They are only effective and obeyed by citizens who act lawfully. They have no effect on anyone who acts otherwise. You can build drones that have no such restrictions. And fly without a license. Just like gun control laws. They have no effect on gun crime rates. Criminals don’t obey laws.
