Almost 20 years later the Hendry own goal was mysteriously awarded to Ryan Giggs. Actually there was nothing mysterious about it at all. It just reinforced the myth that Giggs scored a goal every season that he played

What's so sad is George Best walked away from football at 26 years old. The list of great players with alcohol problems is long. Garrincha was quite similar to Best in footballing ability and a crippling alcoholic.

This was November or December 1992, so some months after the election when John Greyjor won just a 21 seat majority and two months after the Government fucked up the economy with Black Wednesday.

One of the best diatribes ever, it was first aired in Sydney at the Dee Why hotel and it was so good they did it again at the BDO series for that summer. The Sydney crowd loved the bit about Kick a Vic, not so much what Sydney was still full of, but the whole thing got a lot of laughs. Great memories of that diatribe

The 7th meeting of the season, and I went to 5 of them, Stoke knocked Man U out of both cups despite Man U being drawn at home in both cups. Even as a Stoke fan I have to say that George Best was the greatest player I ever saw live, lucky to have sees him in his prime.

Ooh my first (and prolly the last) game I saw at Old Trafford - even an Inter Rail tourist could get an official ticket for £3.50 just a coupla days in advance... Still have it, that's how I remember how "much" it cost

It is very fascinating to see what Melbourne was like 24 years ago compared to what it is now. 🙂🙂 It doesn’t feel any different but there definitely is modifications. I am curious what Melbourne would be in 50 years time 😄😄

i was 12, couldnt believe the result at school the following day. It was the first huge away win i had experienced as a Utd fan. Didnt think we were capable of it. 7 yrs later, same competition, same ground, we won 6-2. I had the same reaction tbh because Fergy hadnt really got going.

Highlights of this match were shown in Australia. Brian Moore presented a programme similar to LWT's The Big Match except this season (1985-6) only one game was shown instead of 3, as had happened in previous seasons.

I think 3-1 flattered Villa somewhat, such was United's dominance of proceedings, and as such, a bigger winning margin for United wouldn't have been unjust. For the Villa penalty at times resembled a pinball machine, the way the ball pinged about, shots were blocked, cleared off the line etc.. Also, I think that United's third goal was actually an OG, by Villa defender Ken McNaught. But there was no doubt about United's second, an absolute "corker" from Steve Coppell, undoubtedly the goal of the game.
