Watched a DA62 fly over me the other day out of YSBK. Beautiful craft in the air and reminds me of my flying days. Perhaps when the kids leave home I'll get back into it. In the meantime, some good vicarious living to be had through wonderful productions like yours! Many thanks and cheers from Sydney - David

Hey Steve! Love the videos. What prompted the use of foreflight over ozrwys or avplan? Suspecting it has something to do with the Garmin interface??
@diamondairtaxis
@diamondairtaxis Ай бұрын
Hi Adam. Yes it interfaces direct with the FlightStream 510 Garmin avionics so you can send flight plans across via Bluetooth. I used Avplan previously but I really just prefer ForeFlight. It also does all your load and performance calcs including OEI. Just a nice app.

If you're heading down south, feel free to drop by Nowra - HMAS Albatross YSNW usually un-restricted on the weekeneds - it would be great to meet you and to catch up for a coffee! Or If you're looking for pilots ;)!

When you did the fuel calcs did you include headwind assumptions on way out and on way back to Coffs if you couldn't land. You had some pretty heavy headwonk/sidewing going to Launceston from memory.

I have flown commercial several times, but have also done over 100 return trips via road since 1970, Perth to east coast (mostly to racing circuits) but would love to do the trip in a light aircraft, preferably overland for the scenery. Great video thanks. Am a bit surprised at how busy a pilot actually is.

If I was going to fly in that kind of WX, it'd be in a DA62. I'm working on whether the 42 or 62 will work better for my mission. I'm considering Angel flights, so there's a balance between ingress and safety for my particular mission. Any thoughts on those two?
@diamondairtaxis

Both are excellent aircraft. The DA62 is substantially larger internally with a higher useful load. It all depends on your mission. I’ve flown both and they are very nice to fly!

A good tutorial on cockpit flow and procedure. Reminds me in the early 2000s flying a Seneca III in an east coast low from BK to PMQ, torrential rain from door to door with a 600' cloud base at PMQ. Just about to do a missed approach when the runway became visual. In those days I had a flight director, HSI, Garmin 450, radar and autopilot - no glass, and six levers to play with, eight including the cowl flaps. What a difference 25+ years make - the DA62 is a very similar aircraft to the Seneca III in both performance and capacity (though the Seneca's range sucks in comparison), but due to all the electronics and glass vastly easier to fly, and dare I say vastly safer. NO PAPER!!! 👏 (and no updates 👍)
@diamondairtaxis
@diamondairtaxis 3 ай бұрын
Great comment. And yes I agree the technology makes the flying much safer. Flying the baron is far more challenging! I’ve not flown the Seneca but I imagine it’s similar to the baron.

Why are your strobes on before taxi?
@diamondairtaxis
@diamondairtaxis 3 ай бұрын
Diamond aircraft do not have a red beacon. So the white strobes are the anti collision lights. Part 91 MOS 26.22 requires anti collision lights to be on immediately after engine start until shutdown. This is also consistent with the aircraft checklist.

Good stuff Steve. How did you put the delays (with hourglass) and runways (11C) in the foreflight flight plan? Thanks
@diamondairtaxis
@diamondairtaxis 3 ай бұрын
It’s easy in FF. On map view you select a waypoint and “select altitude/speed/time”. The runway can be selected from the same menu or I normally select runway from the flights page “departure” -> “takeoff”

Hi Steve, just wondering why the tower gave you the clearance at the holding point and not the run up bay? (I haven’t done a departure into class C from Bankstown yet, but this seems different to what I’ve read).
@willwood1910
@willwood1910 3 ай бұрын
been fairly common at bankstown since the third runway (11L/29R) opened back up, pretty sure its usually just dependent on how busy the airport is because ive been cleared direct to the holding point doing both CTA and OCTA departures.
@diamondairtaxis
@diamondairtaxis 3 ай бұрын
Normally you receive the clearance in the run up bay, however in the 62 I skip the bay and taxi straight to the holding point so I either get it mid taxi or at the holding point
