A very very basic guide I see... first things first, yeah of course decent Speciality coffee, light roast. 2./3.: Water & grinder - Thirdwave water, Lotus Coffee Water and a decent grinder (yeah, the C40Mk4 is fine (pun intended; it actually does not even grind as fine as I´d like; needs RX35...; these days the vas majority of (reddit) users would use 1Zpresso ZP6 or equivalent)). Interested about Martin´s opinion (I bet he´d prefer the Orea V4 Narrow over V60)...

5.000 euro voor een thuismachine…? Bovendien erg lelijk design. En waarom zou je filterkoffie willen zetten met een espressomachine?
@BeanTalk
@BeanTalk Ай бұрын
Hey, thank you for your comment 😊 Of course, 5000€ is quite a hefty price for a single group machine, but this like some others are basically commercial grade machines, which are "small" enough and equipped with some extra features to also be placed in a household. But of course, at this price point it's quite a luxury good. Concerning the design, everyone has different preferences and opinions. I personally really like the design, but that's just my personal opinion. I mean it would be boring if everyone liked the same stuff, and everything looked the same 😉 And if you already have a nice brew bar at home, you're probably not interested into the filter function. But for many people that don't it's a nice bonus. This function is also available for the La Cimbali M200 (as Faema also belongs to Cimbali Group) and for commercial machines it's a great addition. With only the need for a brewer like a V60 and a grinder for filter coffee, a coffee shop could easily offer a brew like that instead of making a batch brew for example. Of course this is just my opinion, but I'd be happy to hear more about yours. Cheers! ☕️

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 😊 This video is from before the M200 was released. I have personally worked with the M200 many times and really enjoyed working with it. It got great ergonomics, makes superb coffee and you can play around with the preinfusion or even pressure profiles on the M200 Profile. And a big plus for the M200 is the pour over function for making filter coffee.

The thing with coffee is people make loads of money off it, that includes the idiots that dream up new tools that you need. Next time you go and get a coffee, watch the barista, if its a great coffee, ask yourself, did he use a multiple needle distributer open bottom porta filter or allllll the other crap? NOPE. its ALL bullshit, the clumps dont matter if its tamped right, just extract a little less, and SMELL the coffee as its coming out, bitter stop take note, go less time next time, you dont need a stupid levelor, when you tamp, tamp it evenly for phucks sake.... Watch the coffee, if its coming out without creama or spurting its not right. You dont need any of this crap, its allllll marketing, like sticking a better car brand sticker on your car. oh it goes faster now, yeah proove it, you cant no scientific proof.
@BeanTalk
@BeanTalk Ай бұрын
Hey there! I can't really argue with your statement, which is also why the video is called "Coffee tools you want but you don't need". Of course there are people profiting of these kind of tools and therefore marketing it, as this is the case in most industries. Also at the end of the episode I include that these tools, if at all, are only rarely used at coffee shops. Most of these tools are more aimed a home baristas that have plenty of time per espresso to use them. But also with commercial grade equipment you usually get better distribution in your portafilter and less clumps compared to a household grinder. Therefore for home users it might actually make more sense to use something like a WDT tool or leveler, to have a better distribution in the portafilter to not have channeling. Because even if tamped correctly, an air pocket could lead to channeling. I have been working in the coffee industry for over 9 years now and of course seen a lot of development in this time. I have also been a little skeptical with every new process that's been introduced, but some of them make sense and some don't. For example the leveler is something that's used a lot nowadays, even in coffee shops and when used with a bottomless portafilter you can actually really see the difference in consistency of the extraction. And working at a coffee shop, the thing you aim for is providing consistently outstanding quality. 😊 But at the end of the day, I think everyone can do as they please and have their own opinions. I'm always open to discussion and would like to know more about your opinion.

@BeanTalk
@BeanTalk 5 ай бұрын
Yeah, it can be a little tricky at first, but you'll get there for sure! Concerning the settings for the preinfusion: You can try the BeFaema app, there they have a cool section called "Sensory Experience" and if you click "From Aroma to Recipe", you can choose what kind of coffee you like and it gives you suggestions for the settings. I would maybe try 2-3 s of wetting and then 1-2 s of blooming from what you told me.
@BeanTalk
@BeanTalk 5 ай бұрын
And if you want a little help with setting your grinder, we actually made a video about that on a Faemina that you can check out here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d993n9V7sNuakok.html However, one thing I highly recommend to make your life a whole lot easier, is to use a scale for dialing in your coffee. For example try something like 19g of coffee in your filter, set the double espresso to 170 imp (should equal to about 40 g in the cup) and try to set the grinder finer/coarser until you have an extraction of around 25 s. Use this as a starting point and then you can play around with some other settings. I hope I could help, and let me know how it goes 😊

@@BeanTalk Slayer is more commercial, albeit the VBM is somewhat commercial. Slayer also is more consistent, has better thermal stability, better steaming, more luxurious and is the jewel crown of espresso machines. VBM has biggest E61 group head which is better than most in thermal stability (not better than slayer though). VBM has programmable pressure profiling which is amazing for its price. Also its super cheap compared to Slayer. Edit: When I claimed that the domobar super was better, I hadn't researched enough bout the Slayer. The only 3 things VBM super has over that Slayer is price, size and Profile programming.

Thanks for your feedback! I agree to the extend, that it's basically a WDT tool. The design and build quality is amazing, but if it justifies the price tag is something everyone has to decide for themselves. What it does better than a regular WDT tool is the way in which it distributes and also that it's not as likely to get messy. That's also why I say at the end, that I mostly see it at barista competitions, where you can get some safe technical points by using this. But yeah, everyone has to decide for themselves, and this is very clearly quite a polarizing tool. (same as levelers a few years back, but now a lot of people use them)

one of the worst ideas in grinders , is the ability to choose different weights or doses . the grind setting for a double espresso compared to a single espresso needs to be readjusted , therefore to have a selector right on the grinder itself is a bad idea .
@BeanTalk
@BeanTalk 9 ай бұрын
I guess it's an easily added feature that is demanded by many on the market. I would personally never use a single portafilter, as you're never going to get the same kind of even extraction as with a double (and I don't mind drinking the extra espreso). But many people rather have the option of using both single and double, and don't care or are unaware of the loss in quality. However, I do understand the manufacturers as well, that they might as well add the possibility to of 2 settings, if that means more potential customers.

Hi! Thank you for your kind words! 😊 The shower screens are nano coated and should be clean again after you flush the group head and therefore clean before making tea or filter coffee. Of course, if you make multiple espressi with a very dark roasted and finely ground coffee, I would personally just quickly wipe the shower screen and flush before making a tea. Just to make sure. However, it is important to keep your machine clean and use an appropriate cleaner frequently, so that you don't have coffee oils building up, that of course wouldn't taste to great in your tea.

@BeanTalk 11 ай бұрын
That's awesome, the E61 is such a beautiful machine! So far I haven't had the chance to play around with a decent, so I can't really say much about that. However, what I really appreciate about the Faemina is the consistency and the many features it comes equipped with, and still being super user friendly (especially when you use the app for the settings). You sure won't have as much data output as from a decent (I don't know if this necessary for the "average consumer", but of course always interesting to have). But the preinfusion possibilites are amazing and can give you some incredible results. What they have added in the app since my review is the new "Sensory Experience", which is basically a guide for you on how to set the machine parameters (Temperature, Preinfusion/Wetting) depending on the coffee you use and which kind of flavors you like.

As a coffee hobbyist I was tempted to get the Otto, but at 60-70 euros I think it's missing the point of this type of coffee. Arabic coffee is about accessibility, street cafes, daily life. A Cezve that costs 70 euros is like paying 50 euros for a doughnut, or 70 euros for a slice of New York pizza. It breaks the character of what makes this coffee what it is. But I do like that more companies are supporting this type of brewing.

Go in Italy and people would behave the same way regarding espresso and how it should always be 1EUR, still proper espresso machines are expensive. The same pizza you mentioned it is also baked in expensive ovens, there are many examples like this where although the product is cheap the machines are not. Replicating any food/drink at home without the economy of scale of selling it hundreds of times a day is and always be expensive. I do agree that unless that ibrik can replace the need of using sand while making proper Turkish coffee then the price is completely ridiculous. It is a shame that they do not try to make coffee on top of a stove in the review, still a great shoutout for what is an extremally underrated way of making coffee(in western media).

My copper, "high-end" ibrik costed 15 euros and it's more than people who drink it every day, are willing to spend for such a device. Hey, thank you for your comment, I always love to hear different opinions on certain topics. 😊 First of all, sorry for not using an induction stove in the review. I actually planned to do so, but the stove we had broke on the filming day. BUT, I can make a short video and post it here as a Short or on instagram as a reel, to show you, if you're interested. Second, the "luxury" coffee gear is a very interesting topic right now, that I also spend some time thinking about. I think we can agree, that the demand for gear that has some different features or is simply stylish, is increasing. If that's for the better or worse, I don't know. But there's definitely more and more people getting into specialty coffee. Many have a better financial background than your classical coffee shop barista and might be able to afford the high end stuff. So, if there's an increasing market, I understand that people try to sell at higher prices. I mean you can even buy distributor tools for 500$ now. But, if this down the line should also lead to more people paying higher prices for coffee beans, and that the coffee producer get more money for their product, I'm all for it. Sorry, but to go back to the Otto: It's a cool product and got me curious about turkish coffee. I really like the looks of it and the materials used as well as the finished product are high quality. Besides the coffee it produces, it also looks amazing and I have it in my kitchen standing around now as a bit of an eye-catcher with it's rather noticeable color. I would personally buy it again, but I definitely understand if that is a lot of money to other ibriks. Thanks again for the comment, and I would love to hear back from you. 👍

Starbucks uses an olive oil from Sicily called Partanna, which according to them has the following taste profile "With rich notes of artichoke and almond with a peppery finish". I used a different extra virgin olive oil from Greece, that also had a bit of a peppery finish, which gave the drink an interesting little kick in the aftertaste. But a fruity oil would probably also be interesting to try 😊

I think a better name is Freddo espresso
@BeanTalk
@BeanTalk Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment! You're right it's almost the same drink, but with the difference that freddo espresso would usually be prepared with a frappe mixer rather than a shaker. Therefore it has even more foam and a bit more of a creamy texture. And of course shakerato is from Italy and the freddo espresso is (as you probably know) from Greece :)

@@BeanTalk hahaha patriotism got the best of me there, I didn’t intent to be disrespectful, if I make this impression. Thank you for your enriched comment! I myself am from Greece so I only know freddo. How ever I am looking forward trying shakerato.

No worries! I used to work together in a coffee shop with a Greek Barista, who very clearly explained the differences of the two drinks to me haha Definitely give it a try! It's a little different in texture and super easy to make at home :) Cheers!

Thank you a lot! You might want to check out the faema home website in your country, but I think it's around 6.000-6.500€

Hey I was wondering if the Faema Faemina needs a direct water line or is the water tank enough? Looking to buy this but I do not have a direct water line availablle
@BeanTalk
@BeanTalk Жыл бұрын
Hey, the water tank is definitely enough for a household. If you are planning to use it for an office or like a restaurant, then maybe you want to upgrade to a waterline. But I can tell you from my experience, that the water tank should usually be enough and is quite handy with the filter already inside 😊 I'd be happy to hear from you what you think of the machine, if you should decide to get it or try it 😁

@@BeanTalk Thanks for replying! I just got the machine, and I love it - I did want to ask, though if you could recommend a bottomless portafilter as I want to improve my espresso extraction. I'm not sure which group head this is and what to buy. thanks!

@@rachaeltanpuikim That's exciting news, I'm glad you like it! It has a sort of standard 58mm portafilter. So, most of the portafilters for Faema, La Marzocco or Rocket for example should work, as far as I know. Pesado makes amazing portafilters for example, but they're definitely a bit pricey. Where are you located?

Great video! Thanks for the follow up video! Mine works quite well. Of course it takes some trial and error to get the perfect grind since not all roasts are the same. Two different roasts gave me a totally different grind, but after some adjusting you can easily find the right setting

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Yeah, especially when you get a new grinder, it takes a few kilos of coffee until it really works well. But yeah, of course with bean density and everything, it's definitely going to need some readjustment. I'm glad to hear, that you enjoy it 😊

Made by Eureka? Last time (6 months ago) I spoke to Faema person on a coffee show he said they don’t have domestic grinder manufacturing yet and that they outsource it to another Italian grinder maker.
