I always try to reunite finds with their owners. This one is difficult, as the ring has no markings, and is commonly sold at local markets.

Both are sterling silver (92.5% silver, 7.5% copper). At the current scrap value, they're probably worth about $20.

I don't necessarily look at it as a negative. I can tell it's at least 40 years old, and it certainly sounded too tantalizing to leave behind, so that specific spot likely hasn't been detected before.

Modern ammo is not a particularly common find here in Australia, so when you find them you know you're possibly onto some old sand.

as a non metal detecting noob what do the numbers mean ?

The numbers correlate to how electrically conductive the metal object is. Higher conductivity = a higher number. Silver and copper are very high numbers (70-99), gold and lead are low (0-30).

Not surprising considering he found it on what looks like a beach or tidal area. Years of moving the coin back and forth in the sand slowly eroded the faces off it. Still a cool find though! My treasures consist of pull tabs, bottle caps, etc. with an occasional penny. Despite the sunburn and aching back I force myself to keep going out by telling myself I'm saving someone's kid a cut foot... 😐

My thoughts exactly! I also found a sixpence nearby in the same rocks, but it was extremely gunked up, and I suspect that's what saved most of the details on the coin. Even if you have a bad day detecting, and don't find much, at least you've cleaned the beach!

It's a heartbreaker! On the flip side, no detectorist would leave a signal like that behind, so maybe that specific spot hadn't been done in a while.
