Ww have pmr radio in the uk and radio output of legal radio is 500mw,but people are buying alot of Chinese handies with removable antennas and using outdoor antennas co linear type and easily achieving 40 to 50 mile distance, illegal but hardly enforcible but gives the hobby more appeal

Should have been a 90-120 second review, I can't fathom how you drug out to 12 minutes. Well, I can fathom. You just talk and talk and talk. And repeat yourself, a lot.

That's sound like an awesome temp! Swap you? Im in Australia and its currently 66F. I just took of my jumper. Anything in mid-90F is normal for most of our summer. The 125F I had when I was in Afghanistan was ok, except the tarmac started to get real sticky.

As expected... if you want to do more cool(er) reviews, I'd be super interested in seeing you review the EcoFlow WAVE 2. I'm really curious about that one... wondering if it'd help me out on my boat (if you'll recall, I borrowed some parking space for a few days, so you've seen it... enclosed cabin RV on water, kinda). Good to see you doing well, still enjoy your videos. de KC3PO

I grew up in the Green Mountains (that'd be Vermont). I recall the only wime the swamp-cooler ever works is 'in a desert' -- Phoenix merchants used lawn sprinklers to cool their product display windows.

Last year I bought two of those bad boys at Home Depot. I was roasting in my top floor apartment in NYC before I got an AC unit and I was hoping those would be enough - short answer - NO! They are not replacements for a real AC unit. They will not cool off a room. They will only make you feel a little cooler if you are right next to it, but you have to keep filling the ice/water every hour or so. It is basically sputtering the water into a fine mist that blows on you and the evaporation makes you feel a little cooler, but it also increases humidity, so if the humidity is already high it really is even less effective. Also some note of caution - the water mist will accumulate on your desk or table and can cause electrical issues if you have outlets below. When I was using them I had to put them in a small aluminum pan (or glass would work) to keep the water spilling all over the place. Are they worth it for $40 - maybe, if an AC is not an option it is better than just a fan. If an AC is an option it is a much better solution especially for cooling off a larger area or a room. I wound up buying a portable AC unit, 8000 BTU to cool off my bedroom for only $250 on Amazon. Works great!

Thanks. Now I know version 2.0 is no better than the original. When I was driving trucks , the company [ made ] all the drivers purchase one in an attempt to cut down on the fuel costs of idling their trucks . The machine blew cold air for maybe an hour and a half. Then all it did was increase the humidity inside the cab . The first version was pretty much junk , and like you state with Vers. # 2 ; a complete waste of money . Thanks again for your summary on the updated model . 73

Less noise also means less signal strength due to the losses in that antenna! And at 150 bucks, I could build 3 or 4 of them with money left over.

It's amazing to me how many people have just that attitude of "I'll just learn how to use it when I need to."! That's not the time to "learn", that's the time to "do"! We learn BEFORE we need to use the skill or tool. That's why people go to school BEFORE they get into the law office, classroom, doctors office, ect. You know what and how to do things beforehand, NOT when the other person is in trouble or needs to be able to do something! But with all of the stupidity out there today, this attitude isn't really that surprising sadly. Just can't fix stupid i guess.

MFJ might not always be the highest QC, but they have been a constant American manufacturer of Amateur Radio products. They were there when I first licensed in 1992. Many of their products are more than adequate for the price and availability. It’s time for Martin to enjoy his family. Yes it would be nice if he could find a buyer for MFJ, but I’m sure that process has its own set of hassles.

Recent Yaesu radios in general are 2-5 years radios. Something WILL fail in that time frame. The FTM-500 is a pathetic radio for the money. For FM and Fusion it does it's job. But that's about it. Even John CROOK knows it's junk, but that's where he gets his paycheck from. Quality control for these CHINESE built radios with the Yaesu name is gone. Baofeng builds a more reliable radio!

Another thing to consider for FRS radios: in a shtf situation, you can crossband with them to get that additional range.

Great little radio ! And they come in pairs too . Um , those contacts on the sides bottom ? Yes , that looks like a stand that you can put the radios in . But the part that impresses me is you might beable to encrypt the frequency your on . So you can cuss your ass off at her / she at you , when you screw up . And as with any radio , they work best at LINE OF SIGHT . They are simple . That is fantastic for short distances . Why not . Better than tieing up your cell phones .

Compander is probably speech processing or compression. ( The old Lafayette Radio CB walkie talkies had a switch called "Range Boost" that increased the modulation percentage). The scrambler function is probably speech inversion that mixes the TX audio with the CTCSS tone. I have some Kenwood FRS radios that work that way.
