Hey Don, I've been thinking of investing in the Sony A6600 and the only thing turning me off is the 1/4000th of a second shutter speed. Do you think that it has been a problem in some cases? Also, for this trip, was the A6600 used? Thanks.

Hello, thank you very much for your video. I have a question, how do you get so close to the birds? I have been doing wildlife photography for 10 years, I have never managed to get so close to birds. Do you stay in hides with water points? If not, what is your technique? Thanks 🙏🏻

Very useful information. I'm just learning the ropes of flying bird photography and one thing that has been a struggle for me is throwing the camera up and finding the bird in the viewfinder when its on 600mm. I've been keeping it on 200 and zooming to 600 after I've got the bird in the view finder. That has helped me a lot. I'm sure in time I'll get the knack of being on target when I pull the camera up but for now this works.
@DonMammoserPhotoАй бұрын
Hey, glad I could help. You are doing the right technique of using a shorter zoom to find the bird at first. It sure is a fun challenge! Enjoy and may your light be great.

Hi Don are you shooting in Shutter priority? are you also auto ISO ? if not could you please elaborate ? thank you!
@DonMammoserPhotoАй бұрын
Hi, for most of the shots in that video I used Aperture Priority mode and I'd choose a specific ISO to give me enough shutter speed. I have since moved to Shutter Priority mode for most of my wildlife work with auto ISO but I go into my ISO settings first and limit the max ISO to 6400 on this camera. Other cameras I have such as my full frame A9III I'll set the upper limit to 25,600. Noise has become manageable in PP but of course blurry images can't be fixed. Thanks for watching my videos.

@DonMammoserPhoto2 ай бұрын
I can't compare to the A1 as I've never owned that camera, but I can say that compared to my A9II the A9III image quality is equal or better. However, I can say that the pre-capture and the AF speed and the 120fps are all game changers compared to any other camera, including the A1. Amazing images are now possible that never were possible before. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for the great tips! Would my aps-c camera with a 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens give me enough reach for birds? It is nice and compact.
@DonMammoserPhoto3 ай бұрын
Hi, in some places that might be enough, but generally I think you'll do better with more zoom power. On your aps-c camera you could always rent a 100-400mm lens and then you'd be golden. You are smart to try and pack light though as this makes life easier. Thanks for watching.

Hi thanks. Does the Sony 100-400 perform better than the 200-600 in AF acquisition and speed tracking? My 200-600 doesn’t perform as well on my A9 as the 100-400. Your comments? Thanks

I'd like to see how well it tracks a series of shots. Say a bird taking off, but it has to be something fairly large in the frame, not a tiny spec in the distance.

Wow, this is the best video about bird photography in SW Florida! So much valuable information. Thanks so much for sharing!This looks like a paradise for bird photographers. My biggest concern is the danger that the crocs and alligators pose. What’s your advice/caution for someone new to Florida regarding these reptiles?
@DonMammoserPhoto3 ай бұрын
Hi QVL75. Thanks for taking the time to watch and for the nice comments. Indeed alligators can be found in most freshwater lakes, etc. in Florida. Typically they don't pose much danger. Just keep alert and stay away from the edges of murky water especially when it's dark out. Photograph and view from a distance and you'll be fine.

Crop sensor camera do not give 1.5 reach! -It just crops the picture (x1.5) giving a limited view. It's the sensor density that do a difference. So using an a7RIV or a7RV will do just as fine as the a6700 (28mp in crop mode). Otherwise a great review :-)

Hi I really enjoyed the video. I am planning a trip to CR but would like some advice on a good place to stay. Fancy is not important access to birds is. Can you recommend a place? I’m looking for a place to do day trips from or better yet just walk the resort area. Thanks

Hi Lori, sure, just come on my tour and I'll take you to the best of the best lodges - all with TONS of birds. But I understand not everyone wants to do that. There are hundreds of amazing lodges in CR. I like the ones near Los Quetzales National Park (if looking for Quetzals) and I like the Cano Negro area and the Sarapiqui area too. Email me [email protected] if you want to go on my tour or if you need more specifics. Thanks for watching my video.

Don, thanks for the very good overview. I would like to suggest one more tip. The rain and high humidity can, on occasion, negatively impact camera or flash functioning especially if you move from a cool, air conditioned room to the steamy outdoors. I always bring a plastic bag full of desiccant packs. I can slip my flash, camera or lens into the bag for an hour or two to reduce any humidity that may cause operational problems.

Having done some comparisons on the A7RV, I found that you are better off just upscaling the image.
@asbjrnhagennielsen65603 ай бұрын
I also tried on an a7RIV with no gain. Gave up on it. But now I bought one again, and will try one more time. I'm suspect it's the 60mp sensor -without an anti aliasing filter, that is on/ beyond the limit of the 200-600mp. But I could create better details in pictures taken under controlled tests. Money bill, on 10 m., trypot, sunlight, 5 sec shutter delay. So perhaps, under the right circumstances..
