I'm struggling to find one in the 280 weight range, but there's one that's 240 for a really good deal. If I just want to fly straight and level as a newbie, would that work?
@ChrisSantacroce
@ChrisSantacroce 10 күн бұрын
Oh wow, you are in luck. The Gin Fuse 37 will be a dream for you. We know all about how well this flies at that weight because we fly the glider tandem at the exact same weight as you ( sometimes ). The weight range starts at 90 k g and goes all the way up to 190 kg. Holler if we can make it happen for you to try one. Nothing is more efficient, more stable or climbs better. We have a handful of guys who fly them at your same weight.

hi i recently brought a brand new dudek hadron 3 wing 22m I've been flying for over 12 years. the new wing is a nightmare to launch forward. trim setting at 3 . can you help. please super fly.
@ChrisSantacroce
@ChrisSantacroce 26 күн бұрын
Thanks for your message, Tony. We can’t speak about that exact glider, but we can say that many times you need to adjust the trimmer to a point where the glider behaves the way you need it to for successful takeoff. I would strongly recommend that you consult with some other people who fly the same glider and see what they are using. Also an inspection might help a ton. Please play with some settings and do some inflations without the motor on your back and just generally make friends with that glider. See if you can find the sweet spot and then when you do share your results with people who actually fly that glider to make sure that You’re still within a decent range. Also good to chat with the distributor in your country. Let us know how it goes.

Holly cow. I needed to hear this. Had a spooky experience learning stalls on first SIV. Hearing this perspective helps me process it.
@theq5762
@theq5762 Ай бұрын
The level to which you dumb down aerodynamics in this explanation is not only wrong but also dangerous. You can totally stall a wing with minimal break input. You are also getting the nomenclature wrong, (as explained in the comment by @MitchG) which creates more questions for pilots down the line rather than (what you claim to be doing) keeping people from having questions. Accident analysis in the past years has shown that different types of stall are the most common cause of accident, whether during take-off, flight, or landing. It might be true that in turbulence, one can prevent collapse of the wing by adding break in certain situations. But really what you are doing when adding breaks is increasing the angle of attack (AoA), when oncoming turbulence is reducing the AoA, and therefore one might be preventing a collapse. Teaching new pilots & students to pump the breaks during landing as a way to mitigate the effects of turbulence most probably does more harm than good. People who have not experienced a controlled stall themselves and have not mastered the skill of stalling a paraglider should not live under the impression that "pumping" the breaks, or applying breaks in general, would keep them safe. Stalling a wing is not a direct effect of break input, but rather of glider speed. A glider that is already slow requires barely any break input to stall and a glider that is shooting in front of you with lots of energy and speed is very hard to stall in the very moment it is in front of you and traveling fast, even with lots of break input (to catch the surge for example).

Thanks for the review. Quick question. Would you prefer the Epsilon Dls or the Ion 7 for xc flights in the alps?
@ChrisSantacroce
@ChrisSantacroce 3 ай бұрын
Interesting question. First thing is that I don’t think you can go wrong. Both are awesome namebrand and state of the art. You might skew your decision toward which is closer - Nova headquarters or Advance headquarters. You might enjoy service from some facility close by. Finally it is always nice to fly with people who fly similar gliders to you so perhaps fly whatever is most popular in your area. It’s fun to compare techniques and when you’re flying the same glider as a friend, you can sometimes figure things out.

Chris, that was a great video and you've solidified a lot of my feelings about the Epsilon DLS, but I'm very curious about your helmet. I've been having difficulty finding "the right" helmet and that looks just about perfect. Good size and shape for the chin bar, visor for when it's wanted, but I can't make out any identifying marks. Can you tell me which it is? Thanks!

I'm roughly the same size and weight as Chris and got my Epsilon 26 from Superfly after a trip to Mexico the instant it was first available. After flying it for a bit over a year I couldn't be more pleased and would buy it a gain in a heartbeat. It is absolutely the perfect progression wing for me. At my skill level and goals for the sport, it's not missing anything need. It's easy for me to get to top of lift/top of the stack and I'm crazy happy with how well the glider takes care of me, especially when things are getting rowdy. I spent a full year learning to fly with Chris at the Point and had the opportunity to try a lot of different wings in different sizes. For me, this is the one that checked all the boxes and I especially like the Advance quality and the mid-weight durability of the DLS as an everyday flyer since most of my local sites back in Colorado are hike-to-fly.
