I was at this game. I was sitting right at the goal line when Gerald McNeil caught the touchdown pass from Kelly. I was in the 5th level at the Astrodome. Perfect seat for football. It was the day after my birthday.

So Chicago blew 2 huge leads vs Philadelphia in 83. George Allen must have been out of his mind. How in the world did they lose this game ??

Jim Kelly was so over-rated. He "telegraphed" every pass before he threw it. He SUCKED.

A little over the top ! But at the time that little 15 yard hail mary deflection that allowed the Breakers defeat the Stars may have been a top 5 moment in professional football in New England at the time ! I mean the Patriots did not have alot to cheer about from 1960 -1983. I was 10 and I remember how excited I was for this kind of moment. Little did I know the Breakers would be gone to histories scrap heap by 1984.

Loved the USFL. Could have rivaled the NFL, had it survived. Sad. Loved the uniforms

I truly appreciate your site. I have a large collection of games from 83-85 on vhs. I loved the league especially the first 2 years. Some stupid owners and crazy expansion killed something special. Thanks.

Donald Trump ruined the USFL by making them compete with the NFL in fall football 🏈 and trying to sue the NFL and force a merger. Thanks to Trump the USFL made the mistake in trying to compete with the NFL in fall football 🏈 instead of just establishing itself as the premier spring football 🏈 league. The original plan of the USFL was simple to meet the demand of off season football 🏈 when the NFL and college football 🏈 are in the offseason which is why they were intended to be a spring football 🏈 league. If it wasn’t for Trump the USFL could’ve if not would’ve and should’ve had at least 30 years of success as the premier spring football 🏈 league.

Geez, originally slated at 12:30 pm in July in Arizona. Dumb. Even before climate change, that would have been a death sentence.

Led the league in attendance (30,000+ average and largest home attendance, 59,000. One star player on the team, Gary Anderson. No RB or WR will score 21 touchdowns and have 1000 yards rushing and 1000 yards receiving ever like he did. Greg Boone rushed for 1000 yards too. Two 1000 yard running backs. That's insane. I was born and raised in Tampa and loved going to Bandits' games. The Buccaneers were horrible back then. My wife and I had our first date at a Bandits' game. Great memories. I hope they come back again in the UFL. Cheers.

Back then we had the Marion Campbell Philadelphia Eagles which were mediocre so the Stars were our chance for a winner....they were embraced by Philly...however they moved to Baltimore right after...it didnt matter because as soon as Buddy Ryan got to Philly the Eagles were the top team in Philly as far as popularity goes...and they get more popular ever since....the Stars thing wouldn't work today as Philly is Eagles country....yes i know the stars are back but they dont play in Philly for obvious reasons

This brand of football is so much better than any XFL or newfangled, ersatz USFL of today. I guess at that time there was a propitious good supply of players, and more importantly good coaches. A creative solution to their financial problems might have been to start mid-summer, with the USFL title game on Thanksgiving weekend. That way the USFL would play more games in traditional football season, while not completely taking on the NFL head on. A clairvoyant might have scheduled games on Thursday night and Sunday night.

This was a very good brand of football. The XFL does not come close, nor any new fangled USFL. They should not have gone toe to toe with the NFL. But maybe started in the summer with the title game Thanksgiving weekend. Of course, Trump brought the league its downfall.

I really believe had Anthony Carter hadn't broken his arm the Panthers would have only lost maybe 1 or 2 games in 84 .. and definitely back to back titles ..

Easily the best of the spring leagues. Owners needed money so they added those new teams which more or less led to the downfall although everyone says the move to the fall was the reason why plus only getting the dollar out of that lawsuit

Supposedly after this game Trump told Walt Michaels that he needed to use Herschel Walker a lot more. In this game Walker had only 9 carries for 53 yards. The next week he had 34 carries for 233 yards.
