I am a 70-year-old who vividly remembers this case. I am also somebody who is completely opposed to the death penalty, and Brady in hindley are a perfect example of why. If they had been hanged at the time the case would have long been forgotten and those poor children would be also long long forgotten. But because they were not executed, the fate of another two children was eventually revealed. Later in her life I found hindleys appeals and pleading to be let out to be a perfect series of advertisements of why you should not abuse children, and every single time she made a public appeal, those poor kids were publicly remembered .

Absolutely devastating! What those monsters did was pure evil. For a Parent to have to listen to their baby girl pleading for her life, calling for her mother I just cannot imagine. I hope they both burn for eternity. RIP to all those beautiful children, may you all fly high with the angels. Love and condolences to all their families 💔💔💔💔💔💔

In the first minute of the video you say Ian Brady is unique for not only torturing his victims but for taking photos as trophies. I'm pretty sure that is not unique whatsoever for a serial killer, what kind of people have you been interviewing as a criminologist?

The mother and baby bond has to be broken. The way that occurs, normally gradually, is that the infant experiences a gap or a lack, and seeks to fill that gap. In this instance the lack is experienced early (in the first four months) and goes on for an extended period (a mothers’ work shift). The gap may well be filled with abstract trauma - a trauma that is purely absence and totally beyond the reach of words. It may never have been conscious but existed largely in the unconscious.

Babies are vulnerable people. A baby was being looked after by her grandfather who had a heart attack and died. Hours later the loving parents returned. The child grew up to be creative, articulate and highly intelligent. Her reaction to the slightest anxiety, however, was extreme violence - both verbal and physical - and this was unconscious. When the cause of the anxiety was removed or dissipated the girl returned to her normal, calm self but she had no recollection of her extreme actions.

He was left alone for long periods as a child (baby) as his mother had to go out to work. How long is a long time? He had to wait for a parent. Parents are still waiting for their children.

You could see the same sadness in Terry West`s eyes as his mother Ann had in hers. That was a very touching moment where Terry Kilbride tells Terry West not to blame himself but there was probably no convincing the man and after finding out that Terry West sadly died earlier this year I`d imagine that if God himself told Terry West what happened to his sister was not his fault he would probably shake his head in disagreement. Here`s hoping that Terry has been reunited with his sister and mother since his passing and rest easy, you weren`t to blame.

Brady's guards used to put food down for him and he would eat parts of it and then try and rearrange it to make it look like it wasn't touched. So the idea of a hunger strike is bogus. He missed hanging by months while people like Reick bently went to gallows when they were clearly innocent.

Sometimes so simply put is the most honest realistic summery of such criminals. They were just horrible horrible people. No empathy for anyone but themselves. Ian Brady was a rather clever cookie and one cannot believe his mental health act. If he had of remained in an ordinary prison he would have been murdered by the other inmates. People with such severe Schizophrenia do not write such well written intellectual letters. They are confused, delusional and disorganised. His handwriting is very small neat, very organised and very precise . They were horrible horrible people.

The psychiatrist who treated Brady in jail, Dr Jeremy Coid, said that with hindsight he thought Brady was autistic but knowledge of autism was very limited back then. There's an interview with Dr Coid here on KZfaq where he discusses it. I think it's very likely that Brady was autistic, given some of his personality traits which are very stereotypically extreme autism. There was a very controversial study by the University of Glasgow which said that in their view, a disproportionate number of serial killers had at least two of the following traits: autism, traumatic childhoods and head injuries. They also believed that Harold Shipman was autistic. You can see some similarities in character between Brady and Shipman, not least the egomania.

Watching Eric Marsden at 33m33secs onwards, I have no doubt that he is genuine. Yet, I believe he may well be mistaken. Not because of the question of whether or not Brady could drive & was driving but, because of the vehicle Mr. Marsden is describing. At approximately 34m36secs Mr. Marsden says " and she closed the boot" then gesticulates to demonstrate how the car boot was closed. However, throughout their time together, the only cars Brady & Hindley had access to was a hired Ford Anglia and an Austin Mini van, shown in the contemporary photographs, that belonged to Myra Hindley. Important point: Austin Mini vans had barn doors at the back which, have two vertical doors. Not one horizontal door/boot lid. Think about that. Each style gives completely different access to the rear. Which then causes very different methods for miming that access & closure of the rear. Eric Marsden could not have seen Hindley closing the doors to her Austin Mini van in that manner, unless the pair were using yet another car unknown to investigators until this point. Unfortunately, Eric Marsden - as well meaning as he may be, is/was only feeding Brady's disturbed, cowardly, fantasia
