Just found your channel, and this is the 1st video I watched. What you say is so true. Having kept reef tanks in the past (last one I had was about 10 years ago) I had forgot how relaxing and peaceful having an aquarium can be, it's a much needed escapism. I moved into the world of Planted 3 months ago, and realised how much I missed it! Looking forward to more of your content :) P.S. Your just down the road from me, I'm in Hartlepool 🙂

@paulswan2 thanks so much for watching, i really appreciate it! How are you finding planted compared to reef? Ive never tried reef, the thought of a bristle worm getting in somehow scares me to much 😂😂. Scapers of the north! ✊️ haha!

@@REscapes I’m loving it so far, used to keep an SPS reef, you might see 1cm growth in a year! I love that you can see massive improvements in a day with plants. I would have said it was a lot easier about 1 month ago, but I have just battled diatoms, got rid, but now I’ve got GDA, and some of my plants are going white 🙀 I’m at a similar stage to one of your latest videos, the one were you’ve got an aquatics shop worth of bottles on your table, trying to battle an issue 😂 Its the learning curve that never ends, but its all part of the fun 🙂

Oh, and the bristle worms are real, found some really big ones when I broke down my last tank….horrific looking things! 🤢

@paulswan2 theres very few animals and critters I'd say I'm scared of, but they absolutely terrify me, I'd have to move out if I found one of them 😂 did you ever see that video of one they found in a salt water tank in a maidenhead aquatics down south, it was about 2 meters long, and it split its self into 3 parts 🤢🤢 ugh, absolutely horrendous! 😅

@@REscapes I didn’t see it, but can well believe it, I removed a piece of live rock once and as I lifted it out, I saw one stretch about a foot out of the rock, god knows what length was left in the rock! My skin crawled at the time and i like to think I’ve got a pretty strong stomach! Might bump into you in one of the local aquatics shop one day, I’ll be sure to say Hi 🙂 Horizon aquatics by the way…..awesome place!

Thank you so much for the video. Great audio quality! I think a clip for your mic is in your future! 🙂 Re Algae and low tech set ups, a "trick" that I've used that others may have tried w success as well is: load it with floating plants like frogbit or water lettuce when you first set it up. They grow quickly and help absorb the extra nutrients that are released when the tank is first set up. The plants will usually out compete with most diatoms if your other parameters are ok. (apologies if you mentioned this trick and I may have missed it!)

I agree. Without my aquariums, my life wouldn't be the same. The peace I get just from simply enjoying them, along with the enjoyment I get from simply tweaking or totally rescaping them... I could not put any kind of value to that. It is invaluable. I have experimented with every kind of rock and wood decor... co2 injection via home-made kits... I have even built my own kit from scratch. I have homemade equipment that functions very much along the lines of things like the aquario neo skimmer... I have modified small submersible pumps to work like CO2 diffusers with great success... I grow garden herbs hydroponically on the top of my open top aquariums... there's always some new experiment to lose yourself in 🙂

I got the lily pipes with a skimmer add on in the inflow. I adjusted the flow on the filter so it doesn’t get sucked in and it has worked great so far. I have the 350 on my Landen 120P. Personally the 800 would probably be overkill for you considering you’re doing proper maintenance.

what you say is absolutely true. I recently came to aquascaping and have not looked back. I am a retired firefighter who has seen some things no one should ever have to see. Sometimes these appalling images return. I have found an escape from these thoughts through hobbies such as model-making and artistic painting but finding aquascaping and its peacefulness has really helps me. I am now 75 and apart from helping with my mental health I find that all the activities involved with aquascaping or any hobby for that matter helps me to keep my brain active even if my body is less willing.😁

Oh and by the way, No need to call me sir, Greg will do.😁

I had this in my nano tank too.. i may say , it actually helped me in keeping my tank water clear.. i mean whenever i complety removed them , my tank water got lightly cloudy.. and also the thin layer of algae on the glass that we all usually have in our tank increases.. i never let it over grow, but let it be in the back side of the plants .. somehow it absorbs the excess waste in the tank. Its my experience 😊 i am ok with it...
