Yeah just watched another reviewer putting 9 Souls in their C tier equivalent, just because it was too Narrative focused. They basically said a lot of what was established by dialogue could be established without it. Same guy praised the corpse running mechanic in 9 souls, because it made the game challenging. That most Metroidvania's are too easy, were you just go back and just pick up your currency or XP, and their was no challenge to that. Now personally I agree with your take, over his, but its interesting how people can have two different takes from the same game.

My thing is their is a thing as sub genra. Games can have metroidvania elements but their main genre is something else. Like as an example Metroid Dread is more action adventure, but it has Metroidvania elements.

Nine Sols has the best 1st and final boss in any Metroidvanias I can remember. Both of them grab you and tell a message: 1st boss: Hey, you better learn how to parry and use your Qi attack. Final boss: Hey, do you feel powerful? Now show me perfection. Outstanding game. For me, in the top tier with Blasphemous 2 and Hollow Knight.

I loved the game. I beat it 100% and immediately started a second playthrough. My only minor criticisms are the dialogue (I can't stand dialogue if it's anything short of astounding, keep it short) and the length of the game. I wish the game was at least twice as big. It's a joy traversing the world and it's too dang small. We deserve more of it. I can't wait for the next game from the developers.

My wall dash was set to a different button so I play with a ps4 controller on steam deck and my wall dash was O and my jump was X. I would have gone nuts if it was the jump button.

Really appreciate the existent of this channel, despite relatively small. Instead of like those big youtubers or media channel who only play things that're most popular, aka the only Metrodvania that are known by most people, like Enders/ Blasphemous/ Hollow Knight/ Blood Stain/ Metroid / Salt/ Ori, you showcasing all those way less popular Metrodvanias that fall out of most people's raider. Plus i trust your taste in Metrodvania genre to give a fair judgement for these games. As a Metrodvania big fan, I'm in for a treat following some of games in your list.

Great review, Guru. Fuck Jirard and his Dickrider stooges. This one for me is a solid down-to-the point game that doesnt overstay its welcome. But yeah, this game feels like it needs some severe reballancing. I dreaded the death counter when I first saw it, but yeah, having beat this like 5 times now, I never died once. I'm an advocate for not having death counters in mvs in general, maybe they belong in some platformers, there's NO need for them in mvs, and I'll try and shut that shit down whenever I can; no one cares for them, no one likes them, there's no need for em. Thats my view. Otherwise, yeah, its a good game

@karmicbacklash3 күн бұрын
Great review, I thought the visuals, combat and platforming were great (and especially how well the latter 2 were combined). As a metroidvania I wasn’t as impressed. The biomes all branch out from the central hub and don’t interconnect at all, and I found the exploration a little limited in scope. I’m probably biased as I prefer super expansive interconnectivity but I did appreciate the non linearity and the potential to sequence break (which I did accidentally and the game actually acknowledged!). That egg though…
@mozydiaz82963 күн бұрын
As for the narration, the game really had a lot to tell but a big part was cut (maybe because of the deadlines) in any case a big part of the map remains empty and is not used for anything so to remedy that they put lots of scenes and texts with a lot of information to the point that sometimes I didn't understand anything because I heard names and information for the first time but the NPCs said them as if the player was already aware of them, it's a shame I would have preferred that they take more time to give us a more accomplished product, but maybe there will be a sequel one day! In any case, it's nice to see a game with beautiful women in it again (the doc, Cassendra, the librarian, Eliza and of course Aleithia 😁)

loved the art, loved the aerial combat, but didn't enjoy the lack of shortcuts or better fast travel - a short game like this has never tired me out so much. You die in the mountains a couple times and I'm just left going ugh, here I go dashing constantly from town to get back and get past the annoying claw foxes again.

Dev here! Hey thanks for this video! A lot of really good stuff in here, and definitely take into account a lot of the issues you had in future updates. Just a few things for clarity: -Regarding the "wall roll" ability. I am not sure if it was some controller issue, but you are actually able to jump off the walls with the jump button. I would be really curious to see what the disconnect here was. The wall jump functions similarly to the mantis claw in HK. -If you continue to hold the "roll" input off of of a wall you are able to to get actually higher than a jump would normally allow. Your dash in this instance will also reset. -I would be very interested in knowing which particular backtracking parts you found tedious. Like if you could give the top 3 even that would help immensely. Not saying that we will neuter those areas but I am willing to kind of revisit them and maybe slightly change them or add shortcuts where it makes sense. -We hear you about the Shogun fight and we are definitely keeping a close eye on that fight and committed to making it better. -Sorry about the fast travel crashing, that must have been insanely annoying and probably soured a lot of the experience. We will fix this in a future update!

Hi, I really enjoyed your game, despite minor issues backtracking and the annoying egg quest, is a solid 9/10 for me. The strong points to me were : The bridge chase All the bosses The option of slowing the game speed for difficult platforming sections, more games should have the option and the user decides if he uses it or not. The only thing I would change is fast travel between save shrines and a boss rush. Again, congratulations on the game.

@@brianmeanor7907 Oh my GOD, no wonder. That must have felt so weird to play with. I want everyone to know that this is absolutely not how its supposed to function. We actually were never able to get PS dev kits so it was particularly difficult for us to test things on PS and the PS controllers were by far the biggest problems. Crazy that this hasn't come up yet. We are definitely going to be looking into this.

I really hope this propels your channel, it became my go to recently, and I’m currently binging through your content and a lot of MVs. I completed Bo a few days back and quite enjoyed it. If you are into platforming in an MV, like the Ori games, this will scratch that itch plenty. Sweet cute lil game, in between longer and more darker tonnes MVs I am going through atm.

dude, i appreciate this channel so much. every time i catch up with your videos, it seems you've made some kind of adjustment or improvement to bring a better product to your viewers. moving the footage credit to the top-left: genius. adding the tier rating to reviews: saves you time making 2 videos on one game, and saves your viewers having to look in two places for the info. it's also important to me, as a .... well, sort of shitty player, to thank you for not being one of those MV purists who feel like easy modes and accessibility options are somehow tarnishing the genre. there is absolutely room in the MV landscape for games like Gestalt and Frontier Hunter, i am proof of that. the fact that you give an easy game like those equal respect and coverage as your average soulslike is what makes this channel such a great resource. yeah i got nothing but praise for you today sir. cheers :)
