I feel like I'm opening a novel that started two years ago when you posted this. I'm going to not skip ahead, read th chapters as they are laid out, and keep hoping there's a happy ending. Unfortunately, I know it's a hard world out there, and the music business, while opening up with never before seen access has also ironically become more difficult, almost impossible without an audience willing to spend to see a performer live.Maybe our hero will find that producing satisfies his creative needs and carves out success that way, or he builds an audience large enough to keep him in the game. But my fiction is your reality and I know the odds. You're good, I hope there's a happy ending.

The drum reverb came from the stairwell. The echo/drum delay came from a Binson Echorec. You can hear the lofi tape echo from the Binson all over it. Great video.

I’m trying to figure a good approximation of this to do with looping in my one-man-band, thanks so much for the deep dive into this! I still like to play it in standard tuned G but I generally keep all my guitars tuned down a full step anyway, I will try it in F or maybe even E…

Are you referring to the split screen images from The Song Remains The Same for bonus points? BTW great video man. Your tunings and sound are one of the best that I’ve heard. Especially your tuning of the 12-string using a 5th rather than an octave.

first off all, don’t ever say “sammy” and “18 years old” in the same sentence ever again! secondly, what a beautiful song man, i’m so incredibly proud of sammy and the man he calls “dad”.

Nice... as someone pointed out in another YT video... the last straight feel of the intro serves as a count-in for the drums and the song.

Persecution is unacceptable in this day and age. It's very sad that people are treated this way. Its unfortunate that there are people in this world who have no regard for life. Thanks for bringing this to our attention JB.

Nothing against your guitar skills, but this ! this is a crime against music. Police are my favourite band, and this is one of my favourite songs, both to listen to and to play on the guitar. What makes it magic is the interplay between bass, drum and guitar, the wonderful rhythm of it. Your version has nothing in common with the original , except you used the same lyrics. PLEASE ! Just write your own tune next time, but don't ruin a masterpiece like Spirits in the Material World. End of rant.
@JB_Eckl2 ай бұрын
Hmmmm. I’m as much a fan as you are and could go off for days about the exact things you mentioned… but a great song is a great song. If it’s really that much of a masterpiece it should hold up to much more drastic interpretations than this. Maybe my style isn’t for you. I’m not saying this is as good as Joe Cocker covering the Beatles or Aretha singing ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ but I feel pretty good about my little tribute to Sting’s writing genius… with or without his legendary collaborators. Anyway thanks for checking it out.
@theskintones2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, it's not your style I have a problem with. Many other songs are amenable to another artist's "interpretation" and changing up the version a bit. But not Spirits in the Material World. The magic of this song is in the rhythm, the syncopation of the guitar against the bass and drum. When you change it so drastically as you have, you have a different song entirely. Whatever floats your boat dude, but for me this was sacrilege ! 😀😃

No need to apologize for not using a Rick Turner guitar on this song. Lindsey didn't get his until 1979; he used a Les Paul on Rumours, so your choice was perfect.
